A credential evaluation is optional for admission, and admitted undergraduates get an in-house transfer credit evaluation that needs an attested translation of each transcript and a certified translation of course descriptions.
WMU at a glance

WMU requirements in detail
Translation
For any document not issued in English, an official English translation of each document (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Who may translate
Not stated on the international page; the Graduate College FAQ says the issuing institution or a certified third-party translator (Graduate College: frequently asked questions).
What to upload
Transcripts or mark sheets from all schools (undergraduate) or from the bachelor's institution and later study (graduate), diplomas, exam results, certificates and official grading scales (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Evaluation
Optional. WMU also accepts evaluation reports, which must include a verified copy of the original transcripts; it names The Evaluation Company (partner, with a discount), WES, ECE, Academic Evaluation Services and Global Credential Evaluators (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Official transcripts
By the end of your first semester, emailed by the issuing institution to intl-admissions@wmich.edu, mailed to International Student and Scholar Services, or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Transfer credit (undergraduate)
After admission, from an official original transcript with an official, attested English translation; course descriptions or syllabi need a certified translation for the academic department (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Deadlines
Undergraduate: fall June 1, spring September 1, summer February 1. Graduate: fall April 1, spring July 1, summer December 1, unless the department sets others (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Admitted on uploads, official papers later
WMU makes its admission decision on unofficial documents.
You upload copies of your transcripts or mark sheets, diplomas, exam results and certificates, the official grading scales that go with them, and an official English translation of each document not issued in English (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Applicants from systems that issue exam results instead of transcripts upload those, with the grading scale.
The official transcripts must reach International Student and Scholar Services by the end of your first academic semester, sent by the issuing institution by email to intl-admissions@wmich.edu, by mail to 1903 W Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, or dropped off in a sealed envelope at 3110 Faunce Student Services Building (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Three translation wordings, one office
WMU uses slightly different words at each step.
For admission it asks for an official English translation; for the undergraduate transfer credit evaluation, an official, attested English translation of each transcript; and for course descriptions and syllabi reviewed by an academic department, a certified translation (Apply to WMU as an international student).
The Graduate College FAQ settles who may translate for graduate applicants: the issuing institution or a certified third-party translator, unless you send a credit evaluation instead of the transcripts (Graduate College: frequently asked questions).
Credit evaluations are done only for admitted undergraduates and take at least 10 business days; graduate students ask their department advisors about transfer credit instead.
Courses are marked as a direct equivalent, departmental credit, no credit, or credit by department recommendation only, and a course in the last group is reviewed by the department from its official course description or syllabus, with a certified translation if it is not in English (Apply to WMU as an international student).

What an eVerbary translation includes

- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to WMU
Upload the copies and their English translations as part of the WMU application; send questions to oiss-info@wmich.edu (Apply to WMU as an international student).
For transfer credit after admission, the translated course descriptions go to the academic department reviewing the course (Apply to WMU as an international student).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For WMU that means we translate your records, grading scales and course descriptions; if you choose to send an evaluation report instead, the agency prepares it.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my transcripts for WMU?
The international page asks for an official English translation without naming a translator (Apply to WMU as an international student); the Graduate College FAQ accepts the issuing institution or a certified third-party translator (Graduate College: frequently asked questions). A certified translation from eVerbary meets both.
Do I need a WES or ECE evaluation for WMU?
No, it is optional; WMU accepts evaluation reports from agencies such as TEC, WES and ECE but also reads your translated records (Apply to WMU as an international student).
When do my official transcripts have to arrive?
By the end of your first semester; WMU decides on unofficial documents (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Do I need my grading scale translated?
WMU asks you to upload the official grading scales for your transcripts (Apply to WMU as an international student); if the scale is not in English, it is a document not issued in English and needs a translation like the rest.
How long does the transfer credit evaluation take?
At least 10 business days, and only after you are admitted as an undergraduate (Apply to WMU as an international student).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
