Central Michigan University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Central Michigan University asks international undergraduates to include certified English translations of all documents not issued in English, and graduate transcripts must include English translations; neither page says who must make them. Central Michigan University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. CMU evaluates transfer credit in-house at no charge after admission, so an outside evaluation is optional, and the records themselves must come sealed or emailed by your school.
Free credit review
CMU evaluates college credits in-house once you are admitted.
Sealed or emailed
Records come sealed by your school, or to isr@cmich.edu.
Grades 9 to 11
Enough for a first-year decision; graduate before you start.
CMU requirements at a glance
| What CMU asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | Undergraduate and transfer: certified English translations of all documents not in English (source). Graduate: transcripts must include English translations (source). |
| Who may translate | Not stated. |
| What records must show | Courses completed, grades or marks, and certificates or degrees awarded (source); graduate applicants include the degree certificate with the award date (source). |
| Evaluation | Not required. Transfer credit is evaluated in-house for free after admission; CMU will consider course-by-course reports from TEC, ECE or another NACES member if you already have one (source). |
| Official delivery | Sealed envelopes from your schools, mailed to International Applications Processing, or official electronic copies sent by the school to isr@cmich.edu, never from a personal email (undergraduate, graduate). |
| Deadlines | Apply by May 15 for fall and October 1 for spring, undergraduate and graduate alike; graduate programs may set their own dates (source). |
| Final transcripts | Admitted students can send them electronically or bring them in a sealed, stamped envelope the week before classes (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. CMU's international undergraduate page asks you to "include certified English translations of all documents not issued in English" without restricting who makes them (source), and a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Transfer credit without an agency
Many universities send international transfer students to a paid evaluation agency. CMU does the work itself: once you are admitted, it evaluates the college credits you already earned at no cost, provided all your coursework was listed on the application and it has records from every institution you attended, finished or not (source). If you already hold a course-by-course report, CMU will consider one from The Evaluation Company, Educational Credential Evaluators or another NACES member.
Because CMU reads your records directly, the certified translation carries the course titles, marks and degree names it uses to match your credits. Transfer applicants with 12 or more transferable credits from a recognized university do not need to send secondary school transcripts at all.
Sealed by the school, or emailed by it
CMU will not wait for partial files: it evaluates an application only after all materials, including every transcript, arrive (source). Your schools seal official transcripts in envelopes that you must not open; you can collect them into one package and mail it to International Applications Processing in Mount Pleasant. Alternatively, a school can send an official electronic copy to isr@cmich.edu from its own address.
First-year applicants still in high school are decided on grades 9 to 11 and must finish an approved secondary program before classes. After admission, the international student portal handles the I-20 request, and final transcripts can be sent electronically or carried to campus in an envelope sealed and stamped by your school; the international admissions team processes them the week before classes (source).
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts for grades 9 to 11, and the final diploma or certificate
- University transcripts from every institution attended, for transfer and graduate applicants
- Degree certificate showing the degree and the date awarded
- Diplomas and certificates awarded, which CMU asks to see on the records
- Proof of funding for the I-20, uploaded in the international student portal
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to CMU
Apply online or on the Common App (undergraduate) or through the graduate application, then have your schools send sealed or emailed records with their translations to CMU (undergraduate, graduate).
Track missing items in your application portal; after admission, upload I-20 documents in the international student portal (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For CMU that means we translate your records; CMU evaluates your credits itself, and the sealed or emailed transcript must come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my documents for Central Michigan University?
CMU asks for certified English translations and does not say who must make them (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Do I need WES or another evaluation?
No. CMU evaluates transfer credit in-house for free after admission; it will consider an existing TEC, ECE or NACES report (source).
Can my school email my transcript?
Yes, as an official electronic copy sent by the school to isr@cmich.edu, not from a personal address (source).
Can I bring final transcripts to campus?
Yes, sealed in an envelope stamped by your school, during the week before classes (source).
When should I apply?
By May 15 for fall and October 1 for spring (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
