University of Tennessee, Knoxville: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
UT Knoxville's Undergraduate Admissions says any transcript submitted in another language must have a certified literal translation into English, and it does not say who has to make it. University of Tennessee, Knoxville accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Secondary records need no evaluation, but college work completed abroad needs a NACES course-by-course evaluation with a calculated GPA, which we do not provide.

High school: a copy and a translation, no evaluation
For international first-year applicants, UT Knoxville reads secondary records itself. Its FAQ says no credential evaluation is needed: you upload a copy of your official transcript, mark sheets, diploma or certificate, following the country guidelines, and students in their final year send their most current transcript (FAQ). Any document in another language needs a certified literal translation into English (Undergraduate Admissions: international first-year application), so the translation is what the admissions team reads.
Before you enroll, official copies must come straight from the issuing school or the issuing ministry or body, by email to Undergraduate Admissions with the subject line "Transcript" or by mail to 320 Student Services Building (Undergraduate Admissions: international first-year application). Plan the translation so it matches the official document you will have sent, not only the copy you uploaded.
Any college work abroad means a NACES report first
If you have studied at a college or university outside the US, you apply as a transfer student and send your transcripts to a NACES member for a detailed or course-by-course evaluation with a calculated GPA; UT will only process the application after the report arrives (first-year page, transfer page). The 2026-2027 catalog says the same, and adds that applicants with fewer than 24 transferable hours may also need to send a secondary school transcript (catalog).
UT names Academic Evaluation Services, Educational Credential Evaluators, Educational Perspectives, WES, Josef Silny & Associates and The Evaluation Company as examples (Undergraduate Admissions: transfer students). Each agency sets its own translation rules; see translation for credential evaluation.
Graduate School: certified translations and country-by-country lists
The Graduate School asks you to upload a transcript from each bachelor's and graduate institution, with certified English translations when it is not in English, and tells you not to upload an evaluation from a credential service such as ECE or WES (Graduate School: transcripts). Uploaded copies are not official; admitted students send official transcripts, and UT can ask for them at any point.
Its page for non-US institutions sets out the documents by country and says English translations are required for any document not already in English (Graduate School: official transcripts from non-US institutions). For Argentina it asks for the Certificado de Estudios and the Título; for India, the statements of marks for every examination attempt and the degree certificate; for China, CSSD verification reports plus copies of diplomas and degree certificates with their official English translations. Records go to the Office of Graduate Admissions, 201 Student Services Building, in a sealed envelope from your institution, or as originals you bring or mail, which are not returned.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts or mark sheets, and the diploma or leaving certificate
- National examination certificates and results
- University transcripts and degree certificates, also needed by the NACES agency
- Country-specific graduate documents, such as the Certificado de Estudios and Título or Indian statements of marks
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UT Knoxville
First-year applicants upload a copy of their records and translation with the Go Vols application or the Common App; official copies follow from the issuing school or ministry by email or mail to Undergraduate Admissions before enrollment (FAQ, Undergraduate Admissions: international first-year application).
Graduate applicants upload each transcript with its certified translation to the online application; after admission, official records go to the Office of Graduate Admissions (Graduate School: transcripts, by country).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For UT Knoxville that means the NACES course-by-course evaluation of college work abroad comes from the evaluation agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
