University of Memphis: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
The University of Memphis catalog says all transcripts, test scores and other credentials of international undergraduate applicants must come with an official English translation, and it does not say who has to make it. University of Memphis accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. International transfer credit also needs a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member, which we do not provide.
Upload first
A copy in the portal is enough for the initial review.
NACES or AICE
Course-by-course, after admission, for transfer credit.
May 1
Complete credentials deadline for fall international admission.
UofM requirements at a glance
| What UofM asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | All transcripts, test scores and other credentials must be accompanied by an official English translation (catalog). No translator type is named. |
| How you apply | Online at apply.memphis.edu; upload a copy of your official transcript or marks sheet to the application portal for an initial assessment, usually decided in 5 to 7 business days (source). |
| Official documents | The official transcript or marks sheet is required before enrollment (source). |
| Deadlines | Complete credentials by May 1 for fall, September 15 for spring and February 1 for summer (catalog). |
| Transfer credit | After admission, a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member; TEC (formerly SpanTran) and IEE have discounted UofM applications (source). |
| Nursing | International nursing credits for the BSN need a CGFNS evaluation (source). |
| Graduate School | Evaluations are not required by the Graduate School but some programs require one; decisions can be made on unofficial transcripts (source, FAQ). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. The 2026-2027 catalog asks for an official English translation of all credentials without restricting who makes it (catalog), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that rule. Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

Every credential, including test scores
UofM's catalog goes further than most: the official English translation requirement covers not only transcripts but test scores and other credentials, and all of it has to be on file with Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation by the deadline for your term (catalog). In practice that means the secondary transcript or marks sheet, the leaving certificate or diploma, national exam results and any university records.
The process starts light. You upload a copy of the transcript or marks sheet to the application portal, the office makes an initial assessment, and most decisions arrive by email within 5 to 7 business days; the official document is needed before you enroll (source). International Student Services adds that degree certificates and official transcripts are not generally a condition of admission and can be submitted as they become available or on arrival (ISS FAQ). Uploading the translation with the copy avoids a second round.
Transfer credit and graduate programs
For credit from a university abroad, UofM wants a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member, ordered after admission and paid by you; credits post as unassigned electives that your advisor then applies to the degree. TEC and IEE have custom UofM applications at a discount, and nursing credits for the BSN go through CGFNS instead (source).
The Graduate School does not require an evaluation itself and recommends TEC when a program asks for one (source). Some programs do: the CERI graduate program, for example, requires a course-by-course evaluation when transcripts are not in English or cannot easily be converted to letter grades (CERI). Check your program's page.
Where UofM's pages differ
The undergraduate international admissions page asks you to upload a copy of your transcript and does not mention translation (admissions page); the 2026-2027 catalog says all credentials must be accompanied by an official English translation by the stated deadlines (catalog). We have not resolved that difference for you; if you are unsure, ask admissions@memphis.edu before you submit.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts or marks sheets
- Leaving certificate, diploma or national exam results
- University transcripts and degree certificates, also needed by the evaluation agency
- Test score reports issued in another language
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UofM
Upload the copy of your transcript or marks sheet and its translation to the application portal; other credentials go to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation at 101 Wilder Tower or through the secure upload site (source, catalog).
Graduate applicants upload a copy of each transcript with the application; the final official transcript follows if you enroll (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For UofM that means the NACES or AICE course-by-course evaluation, or the CGFNS evaluation for nursing, comes from the evaluation agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my documents for the University of Memphis?
The catalog asks for an official English translation of all credentials and does not restrict who makes it (catalog). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that rule.
Can I apply with a copy of my transcript?
Yes. Upload a copy to the application portal for the initial assessment; the official transcript is needed before enrollment (source).
Which evaluation agency should I use for transfer credit?
Any NACES or AICE member, course-by-course. UofM recommends TEC (formerly SpanTran) and IEE, which have discounted UofM applications (source).
Do graduate applicants need a credential evaluation?
Not for the Graduate School itself, but some programs require one (source).
When are international documents due?
Complete credentials by May 1 for fall, September 15 for spring and February 1 for summer (catalog).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
