How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The University of Houston asks first-year applicants for foreign academic records in the original language with a certified literal English translation, prepared by the issuing school, the Ministry of Education, a consulate or embassy, EducationUSA or a certified translation service.
University of Houston accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
The Graduate School is stricter: it accepts translations only from the university that issued the records, EducationUSA or a translator certified by the American Translators Association (ATA), which eVerbary provides on request; it evaluates foreign degrees itself and does not accept outside evaluations.
UH at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
UH undergraduate admissions accepts a certified literal English translation from "a certified translation service" (secondary records), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it.
The Graduate School accepts only the issuing university, EducationUSA or an ATA-certified translator (graduate transcripts); eVerbary assigns an ATA-certified translator on request. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about UH
Literal translation
Undergraduate records: original language plus a certified literal English translation.
ATA for graduate
The Graduate School takes only the university, EducationUSA or an ATA-certified translator.
No outside evaluation
The Graduate School evaluates in house; WES-type reports are not accepted.
UH requirements in detail
Translation (undergraduate)
Records not issued in English must be in the original language with a certified literal English translation (Required secondary academic records).
Who may translate (undergraduate)
The issuing school, the Ministry of Education, a consulate or embassy, EducationUSA or a certified translation service (Required secondary academic records).
Who may translate (graduate)
Only the college or university, EducationUSA or a translator certified by the American Translators Association (Graduate School: international transcripts).
Evaluation
None for first-year applicants. International transfers may send an optional course-by-course evaluation from WES, ECE or TEC for faster processing (International transfer admission). The Graduate School evaluates in house and accepts no outside evaluations (Graduate School: transcripts FAQ).
Where to upload
Undergraduates upload copies of foreign transcripts to myUH self-service through AccessUH; uploads count as unofficial (first-year, transfer). Graduate applicants upload scanned PDFs to the online application (Graduate School: international transcripts).
Official records
If admitted, official final records come directly from the issuing school by mail or a secure electronic service (Required secondary academic records). Graduate records must arrive in envelopes sealed and stamped by the issuing university (Graduate School: international transcripts).
Deadlines (undergraduate)
Spring 2027: apply by Nov. 2, 2026, supporting documents by Nov. 9. Fall 2027: apply by May 3, 2027, documents by May 10 (International freshman admission).
Undergraduate and graduate: two different translator rules
UH's undergraduate admissions office names five acceptable sources for the certified literal translation of secondary records: the issuing school, the Ministry of Education, a consulate or embassy, EducationUSA, or a certified translation service (Required secondary academic records).
The records themselves stay in the original language, so you upload both.
First-year applicants follow UH's tables by country and curriculum, which list the transcripts for years 9 to 12 and the leaving certificate it expects, for example the Certificado de Estudios Académicos and the Título de Bachiller for Argentina; national exam results must come straight from the exam board.
The Graduate School narrows the list: translations are accepted only from the college or university, EducationUSA, or a translator certified by the American Translators Association (Graduate School: international transcripts).
A complete record means the transcript of every semester, the degree certificate, and an English translation of each.
If you are applying to a graduate program and your records are not in English, order the ATA option described below; for undergraduate admission a standard certified translation is enough.
Evaluations: optional for transfers, refused by the Graduate School
International transfer applicants with at least 15 college hours do not need an outside evaluation.
UH offers one as a shortcut: a course-by-course report from a NACES member (WES, ECE or TEC), sent directly by the agency, lets UH use the agency's GPA instead of waiting for its own review, at the applicant's cost (International transfer admission).
Without it, you upload copies of your transcripts to myUH and UH evaluates them itself (International transfer admissions process).
The Graduate School works the other way: all credential evaluations are done in house and outside evaluations are not accepted (Graduate School: international transcripts).
Its FAQ asks you simply to upload copies of your official transcripts, in the original language and with the translations, for its transcript analysts (Graduate School: transcripts FAQ).
Paying for a WES report for a UH graduate application is money spent on a document UH will not read.
Graduate country rules: sealed envelopes, Iran, India
The Graduate School treats records as official only in envelopes sealed and stamped by the issuing university; it does not accept electronic documents from international institutions unless the school issues no paper copies, in which case the registrar emails gradschool@uh.edu (Graduate School: international transcripts).
If your university issues only one original, the registrar can attest copies, or you bring the original for authentication on arrival.
Its country list adds specific rules: for Iran, the English translations of the transcript and diploma must carry the original stamps of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; for India, semester mark sheets are required and a consolidated mark sheet is not enough; for Korea, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia the list asks for the transcript issued in English (Graduate School: international transcripts).
Need a certified translation for UH?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts for years 9 to 12 and the leaving certificate or diploma
- National or external exam results, such as the baccalaureate or WAEC
- University transcripts or semester mark sheets, for transfer or graduate applications
- Degree certificates and diplomas, which the Graduate School lists with their own translation
- Bank statements for the I-20, uploaded to myUH as one PDF
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UH
Undergraduates apply through the Common App or ApplyTexas and upload copies of foreign transcripts, with their translations, to myUH self-service through AccessUH.
The upload completes the application; official final records follow from the school if you are admitted (International freshman admission, Required secondary academic records).
Graduate applicants upload scanned PDFs of the transcript, degree certificate and both translations to the online application; they count as unofficial but programs may decide on them.
Official records then go to UH Graduate Admissions in envelopes sealed by the issuing university (Graduate School: international transcripts).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for UH, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For UH that means we translate your records; the optional transfer evaluation comes from WES, ECE or TEC, and the official transcripts come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my high school records for UH?
The issuing school, the Ministry of Education, a consulate or embassy, EducationUSA or a certified translation service, as a literal translation, with the original-language records (Required secondary academic records). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Does the UH Graduate School accept any certified translator?
No. It accepts translations only from the university, EducationUSA or an ATA-certified translator (Graduate School: international transcripts).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for UH?
Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for the UH Graduate School and needs a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.
Should I send a WES evaluation with my graduate application?
No. The Graduate School evaluates foreign credentials in house and does not accept outside evaluations (Graduate School: transcripts FAQ).
Do transfer applicants need a credential evaluation?
No, it is optional. A course-by-course report from WES, ECE or TEC can speed up the GPA calculation; otherwise UH evaluates your uploaded transcripts (International transfer admission).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
