Lone Star College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Lone Star College accepts foreign high school and college documents written in another language only together with a certified English translation, and its policy does not say who must make that translation. A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. After admission, every student with records from outside the US, F-1 or not, also needs an official evaluation from a NACES or AICE member before the end of the admit term, which we do not provide.

Translate, then evaluate

Translated records for admission; evaluation before the admit term ends.

NACES or AICE

Only members of those two associations may evaluate.

Evaluation kept

Once submitted, an evaluation becomes LSC property.

F-1 applicants: a translation first, an evaluation second

Lone Star's international transcripts page works in two steps. To be admitted, an F-1 applicant shows high school completion (or completed college-level work) with the original documents and a certified English translation, and sends all admission documents to the International Student Advisors at their campus. Acceptance does not close the file: an official third-party evaluation from a NACES or AICE member is still due before the admit term ends. Graduates of US Department of State-assisted high schools are exempt from it.

For high school completion, Lone Star recommends a document-by-document evaluation that states the US equivalent and converts your grades to a GPA, and it suggests the agency attach the document it evaluated to the report. For college credit it wants a course-by-course report instead. If you have both kinds of records, check which report each one needs before ordering, because an evaluation sent to Lone Star becomes its property and is not released to you or to another school.

Evaluation agencies set their own rules for documents in another language, so check the agency's instructions before you send it a translation.

Residents and immigrants: a separate route

Students who are not F-1 holders or applicants follow the high school transcripts page, which does not mention translation at all; it routes them to a NACES or AICE evaluation. High school completion can be shown with an evaluated foreign diploma, with an evaluated foreign college transcript that shows at least one completed course, or with a US college transcript.

This page lists more exemptions than the F-1 one: besides State Department-assisted schools, graduates of the IB Diploma Programme and of CHEA-recognized accredited high schools do not need the equivalency evaluation. A student who cannot obtain official documents may ask the home campus for Individual Admission, but the page warns that this may make you ineligible for financial aid (source).

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Lone Star College

F-1 applicants send the original-language documents and their certified translations, with the rest of the admission documents, to the International Student Advisors at their campus (source).

The evaluation is sent by the agency straight to LSC Student Records, or delivered in a sealed envelope to a campus Admissions Office. Residents and other non-F-1 students apply through ApplyTexas and follow the same delivery rules (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Lone Star that means we translate your high school and college records; the NACES or AICE evaluation due before the end of your admit term comes from an evaluation agency.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply to Lone Star as an F-1 student with a diploma that is not in English?

Yes, if you submit it with a certified English translation. Once accepted, you still need an official NACES or AICE evaluation before the end of your admit term (source).

Which evaluation does Lone Star want for my foreign high school diploma?

It recommends a document-by-document evaluation with a US equivalency and GPA conversion from a NACES or AICE member, ideally with the evaluated document attached (source).

I live in Texas and finished high school abroad. Do I need an evaluation?

Generally yes, from a NACES or AICE member, unless you graduated from a US State Department-assisted school, the IB Diploma Programme or a CHEA-accredited high school (source).

Can I use my foreign university transcript instead of my high school diploma?

Yes. An evaluated foreign college transcript showing at least one completed course meets the high school completion requirement (source).

Will Lone Star return my evaluation so I can use it elsewhere?

No. An evaluation submitted to Lone Star becomes its property and is not released to the student or to another institution (source).

What if I cannot get my official high school documents from abroad?

Non-F-1 students may request Individual Admission through their home campus, but may then be ineligible for financial aid (source).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
