University of Arizona: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
The University of Arizona wants every international document translated into English, and its International Admissions office publishes a list of what counts as a certified translation, which includes translations by a member of the American Translators Association. University of Arizona accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The Graduate College is stricter: its transcript page asks for an English translation issued by the university or college that issued the record, and we cannot provide that one.
ATA members count
Listed next to the school, the Ministry of Education and NACES members.
Grades first, records later
Self-reported grades or copies are enough to be reviewed.
Graduate College differs
It wants the translation issued by your university.
UA requirements at a glance
| What UA asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | All international documents must be translated into English (source). |
| Who may translate (undergraduate) | The issuing institution, a member of the ATA, the Ministry of Education (not other ministries), the National Center for Interpretation Services or a NACES member; for Iran, also the Ministry of Justice (source). |
| Who may translate (graduate) | An officially verified English translation issued by the university or college (Graduate College). |
| Evaluation | Not required for undergraduates. Graduate applicants may add a WES or ECE report, which the Graduate College says it does not require (source, FAQ). |
| Where to upload | Copies in the application or the Future Wildcat portal, or by email to international@arizona.edu; graduate applicants upload PDFs in GradApp (FAQ, Graduate College). |
| Copies or originals | Official records come straight from the school, or as originals or certified copies with its seal or signature. Copies certified by a notary public are not accepted (source, FAQ). |
| Timing | Undergraduate applications open August 1; official secondary records and exam results are needed before you enroll (dates, source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. UA's transcript page lists translations made by a member of the American Translators Association among the certified translations it accepts for undergraduate applicants, and eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062). For graduate applicants the Graduate College asks for a translation issued by the university or college (source). Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

A published list of who may translate
Most universities ask for a "certified" translation and stop there. UA's International Admissions transcript page spells out what it means: a translation issued or verified by the school that issued the record, one made by a member of the American Translators Association, one issued by the Ministry of Education, one from the National Center for Interpretation Services, or one from a NACES member. Translations by ministries other than Education are not valid, with one exception: for Iran, the Ministry of Justice is also accepted. A NACES report counts only when it travels with the original transcript; without it, UA treats the report as unofficial.
For undergraduates the translation does not wait for the official records. UA reviews first-year applicants on unofficial transcripts or self-reported grades, and you can upload copies in the application or email PDFs; official transcripts for every year of secondary school, and official exam results, are required before you enroll (source, FAQ). If you cannot part with your only original, the FAQ lets you send photocopies certified by the issuing school or the Ministry of Education, with an original signature and colored seal.
Graduate College: the translation comes from your university
The Graduate College transcript page, and the graduate section of the International Admissions page, use a different rule for records from universities abroad: transcripts and degree certificates go in the original language with an officially verified English translation issued by the university or college. Each page of the record must carry the institution's stamp or seal, a signature and the date of issue, and if your university issues only one set, you show it to Graduate Admissions after you arrive.
For admission review you upload unofficial PDFs in GradApp; officials follow once you are formally admitted, by mail or as PDF e-transcripts to transcripts@grad.arizona.edu (source). The Graduate College can consider a WES or ECE evaluation that lists all coursework, units, grades and GPA (source); its FAQ says such an evaluation is not a requirement. Individual programs may ask for official transcripts earlier.
Where UA's pages differ
The undergraduate international page on www.arizona.edu recommends a certified English translation service and says it can be a local company or a credential evaluation company, without the list of accepted translators that the International Admissions transcript page gives. And the same transcript page accepts ATA members for undergraduate records but asks graduate applicants for a translation issued by the university. We have not resolved these differences; if your case is unclear, write to international@arizona.edu before you order a translation.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts or mark sheets for all years
- National or school-leaving exam results
- University transcripts and degree or diploma certificates
- Course records for transfer credit at the Registrar
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UA
Undergraduates upload the record and its translation in the application, or later in Future Wildcat, or email PDF copies to international@arizona.edu (FAQ). Official college transcripts go from the school to the Registrar at REG-transcripts@arizona.edu (source).
Transfer credit for study abroad is worked out by the Registrar with its international credit conversion guides; questions go to transfercredit@arizona.edu (Registrar, transfer admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For UA that means we translate your undergraduate records; the Graduate College asks for a translation issued by your university, which only the university can provide.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my documents for the University of Arizona?
For undergraduate admission, UA lists the issuing school, a member of the American Translators Association, the Ministry of Education, the National Center for Interpretation Services or a NACES member (source). eVerbary is an ATA corporate member.
Does the Graduate College accept a translation from a professional service?
Its transcript page asks for an English translation issued by the university or college (source). Ask Graduate Admissions or your program if your university cannot issue one.
Can I use a notarized copy or a notarized translation?
No. UA does not accept certification by a notary public; copies can be certified by the issuing school or the Ministry of Education (source).
Do I need WES to apply to a graduate program?
No. A WES or ECE report can be considered, but the Graduate College says it is not a requirement (source).
Can I apply before I have official transcripts?
Yes. Undergraduates can be reviewed on unofficial transcripts or self-reported grades; officials are needed before enrolling (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
