How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
UNCG requires a course-by-course evaluation of non-US transcripts: for undergraduates, in addition to the official transcripts, from SpanTran (preferred), any NACES member or Scholaro; for graduate applicants, from a listed NACES member, which the Graduate School says replaces official translated transcripts.
UNCG's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE, IERF and Educational Perspectives, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the agency then sends its report to UNCG, and the evaluation is something we do not provide.

UNCG requirements in detail
Translation
UNCG states no translation rule; non-US records are read through a course-by-course evaluation (International admission requirements). The translation is what the agency needs before it evaluates a document not in English.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency. WES, ECE, IERF, Educational Perspectives, IEE and Scholaro accept professional translations; SpanTran (The Evaluation Company) asks for an ATA-certified translator.
Undergraduate evaluation
Course-by-course, in addition to official transcripts, sent directly by the provider; SpanTran preferred, or any NACES member, or Scholaro (International admission requirements).
Who is exempt
Applicants with an IB Diploma or IB track, India's Standard XII, Nepal's School Leaving Certificate with mark sheets, a GCSE/IGCSE statement of results or a WASSCE/WAEC score report (International admission requirements).
Transcripts
Official secondary transcripts in English, received directly from the school by email to admissions@uncg.edu or by mail (International admission requirements).
Graduate
A course-by-course evaluation from TEC, WES, Educational Perspectives, ECE or IEE; the Graduate School says this eliminates the need for official translated transcripts from your schools (International admission requirements).
Graduate deadlines
Vary by department; international applicants should apply at least 30 days before the posted deadline (International admission requirements).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
UNCG lets undergraduates choose among NACES members and Scholaro, with SpanTran as its preferred partner (International admission requirements).
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept applicants' own.
ECE accepts a complete, literal translation, including one you make yourself, and sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally. IERF asks for typed, line-by-line translations and may require a professional one.
Educational Perspectives accepts a reputable translation agency or certified professional translator and sells its own. IEE wants a certified translator, not the applicant.
Scholaro accepts the native-language record or a certified translation, not your own.
SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts outside translations only from translators certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in-house.
If you use UNCG's preferred partner, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies.
Undergraduate and graduate rules differ
For first-year applicants and transfers with fewer than 24 credits, UNCG wants official secondary transcripts in English, sent by the school, and a course-by-course evaluation on top; non-US secondary credentials must meet US high school diploma equivalence whether evaluated outside or in-house (International admission requirements).
Six credentials are exempt from the evaluation, so check the list before you pay for one.
The Graduate School asks only for the evaluation, from five named NACES members, showing a bachelor's (and a graduate degree if the program requires it) equivalent to a US degree; it says the report replaces official translated transcripts from your schools.
No evaluation is needed for a foreign bachelor's if you hold or are completing an advanced degree at an accredited US institution (International admission requirements).
Need a certified translation for UNCG?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificate, for the undergraduate evaluation
- University transcripts and mark sheets, every year
- Bachelor's and graduate degree certificates
- Grading scale printed with the transcript
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UNCG
The translation does not go to UNCG: you upload or send it to the evaluation agency with your records, and the agency sends its course-by-course report directly to UNCG.
Official transcripts go from your school to admissions@uncg.edu or to UNCG Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment & Admissions Office, P.O. Box 26170, Greensboro, NC 27402-6170 (International admission requirements).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For UNCG that means we translate your records for the agency; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from SpanTran, another NACES member or Scholaro, and sent by the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does UNCG require a certified translation?
UNCG itself states no translation rule. It requires a course-by-course evaluation of non-US transcripts (International admission requirements), and the agency sets the translation rule: WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).
Which agency should I use for UNCG?
Undergraduates: SpanTran is preferred, and any NACES member or Scholaro is accepted. Graduate applicants: TEC, WES, Educational Perspectives, ECE or IEE (International admission requirements).
Do I need an evaluation if I studied in India or under the IB?
Not for the undergraduate application if you have an IB Diploma or IB track or India's Standard XII; Nepal SLC, GCSE/IGCSE and WASSCE/WAEC are exempt too (International admission requirements).
Will SpanTran accept an eVerbary translation?
SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts outside translators only if certified by ATA (TEC). eVerbary can provide one on request through a free quote for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page).
Do graduate applicants still send translated transcripts?
The Graduate School says the NACES course-by-course evaluation eliminates the need for official translated transcripts from your schools (International admission requirements).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
