University of Louisiana at Lafayette: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
UL Lafayette's undergraduate admissions page says official English translations must be provided by the American Translators Association, or you can send an evaluation from a NACES member; its Graduate School asks for a certified, literal English translation of any document not issued in English. University of Louisiana at Lafayette accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062); we translate, and we are not the NACES evaluation service some applicants use instead.
ATA named
Undergraduate translations are tied to the American Translators Association.
Free graduate evaluation
The Graduate School evaluates foreign transcripts at no charge.
Literal and exact
Graduate translations must follow the original word for word.
UL Lafayette requirements at a glance
| What UL Lafayette asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation (undergraduate) | Official English translations, provided by the American Translators Association (International admissions). |
| Alternative (undergraduate) | A transcript evaluation from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services is also accepted (International admissions). |
| Translation (graduate) | A certified, literal/exact English translation of any document not originally issued in English (Graduate School: international applicants, transcripts). |
| Evaluation (graduate) | Complimentary foreign transcript evaluation by the Graduate School; it may require an external course-by-course evaluation at your expense (Graduate School: international applicants). |
| Copies or originals | Undergraduates send official or certified true copies of all records (International admissions); graduate transcripts arrive sealed from the school or via Parchment or the Clearinghouse (Graduate School: transcript requirements). |
| Country rules | Individual mark sheets for countries such as India, Nepal and Bangladesh, including repeated and failing grades (Graduate School: transcript requirements). |
| Deadlines | Undergraduate: June 1 (fall), October 1 (spring), March 1 (summer), late applications for $25 (International admissions). Graduate I-20 decisions: June 30 and November 15 (Graduate School: international applicants). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. The undergraduate page names the American Translators Association as the source of official English translations (international admissions), and the Graduate School asks for a certified, literal/exact translation without naming a translator (graduate page). eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets those rules. Undergraduate: an ATA translation or a NACES evaluation
UL Lafayette's international admissions page, under Transcripts & Scores, says official English translations must be provided by the American Translators Association and links to the ATA's website; the next sentence accepts a transcript evaluation instead, if the evaluating service is a NACES member (International admissions). The page does not say whether it means ATA members or ATA-certified translators. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062). That is a company membership, not an individual ATA certification of each translator.
The records themselves are sent as official or certified true copies of all secondary transcripts, notes and mark sheets, by mail, by email to admissions@louisiana.edu or by fax (International admissions). Applicants also fill in a Chronological Record of Education listing every school and job.
Graduate School: literal translations and a free evaluation
The Graduate School asks for official transcripts in the institution's native language with a diploma or degree certificate, and a certified, literal/exact English translation of anything not issued in English (Graduate School: transcript requirements). For India, Nepal, Bangladesh and some other countries it wants individual mark sheets with every repeated and failing grade; copies must be attested by the Registrar or Controller of Examiners and arrive sealed. A literal translation keeps every mark, including fails, as printed.
Unlike many universities, UL Lafayette evaluates foreign transcripts for graduate applicants at no charge, and accepts evaluations from approved services if they include the official transcripts used (Graduate School: international applicants). Copies can be uploaded to the application portal to speed things up, but transcripts emailed by applicants are not accepted (Graduate School: transcript requirements).
Where UL Lafayette's pages differ
The undergraduate admissions page says translations must be provided by the American Translators Association (web page); the undergraduate international FAQ only says official English translations must also be provided, with no source named (FAQ). We have not resolved that difference. If you are unsure, ask the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you submit.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts, notes and mark sheets
- Diploma or leaving certificate
- University transcripts, individual mark sheets and degree certificates, for graduate study
- Bank statement for the Confidential Financial Guarantee
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UL Lafayette
Undergraduate documents can be uploaded with the online application or sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment, 1511 Johnston Street, Lafayette; official transcripts may also go by email to admissions@louisiana.edu or by fax (International admissions).
Graduate applicants upload copies in the application portal, then have official transcripts sent sealed to the Graduate School, Martin Hall Suite 332, or electronically to gradschool@louisiana.edu (Graduate School: transcript requirements).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95 per page.
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for UL Lafayette, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office). We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them. For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At UL Lafayette that means we cover the translations; a NACES evaluation, which undergraduates may send instead, comes from an evaluation agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

UL Lafayette's undergraduate page says official English translations must be provided by the ATA (International admissions). eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062).
Can I send an evaluation instead of a translation?
For undergraduate admission, yes: evaluations from a NACES member are also accepted (International admissions).
What kind of translation does the UL Lafayette Graduate School want?
A certified, literal/exact English translation of every document not issued in English (Graduate School: international applicants).
Do I pay for a credential evaluation for graduate admission?
No. The Graduate School evaluates foreign transcripts at no charge, though it can ask for an external evaluation at your expense (Graduate School: international applicants).
Must my mark sheets show failed exams?
For India, Nepal, Bangladesh and some other countries, individual mark sheets must include all repeated and failing grades (Graduate School: transcript requirements).
