Requirements checked on October 27, 2026 from UC Merced's public pages (sources).

UC Merced's Graduate Division asks applicants with foreign academic work for official records sent directly by each school along with a certified English translation, and undergraduates follow the shared UC rule: certified translations of all college records not in English, by the university or by a certified translator who knows educational terminology.

The University of California, Merced accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Neither level names an outside credential evaluation; graduate admissions judges degree equivalence itself.

UC Merced at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

UC Merced's Graduate Division asks for "a certified English translation" without restricting who makes it (international applicants), and the UC rule used for undergraduates accepts translations by certified translators (UC transfer records); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

Sample translation: a Brazilian university transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Portuguese sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • CPF, RG, MEC, D.O.U., CH, CR and ENADE are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, and only then.
  • Status codes (AP, RM, RF, AE) are explained on first use, so a course failed and retaken the next term reads correctly.
  • Grades, decimal commas and dates stay exactly as printed; the date format is noted once. Converting grades is the evaluator's job.
  • Terms, rows and columns follow the original line for line, so each course can be matched at a glance.

UC Merced requirements in detail

Translation (graduate)

Official records directly from each school, along with a certified English translation (Graduate Division: international application information).

Translation (undergraduate)

Certified translations of all international college records not in English (UC first-year).

Who may translate

Graduate: not stated (Graduate Division: international application information). Undergraduate: the international university or certified translators with knowledge of educational records and terminology (UC: transfer international records).

Secondary records

Generally not translated unless the alphabet is not Roman; then official translations are required (UC: first-year international records).

What graduate records show

Dates of enrollment, courses, class rank if applicable, the grading scale and the degree awarded or expected (Graduate Division: international application information).

Evaluation

None named; the Graduate Admissions Office determines US bachelor's equivalence from your record (Graduate Division: international application information).

Graduate Division: records from the school, translation alongside

UC Merced's Graduate Division asks for a degree equivalent to a US bachelor's and decides that equivalence itself, based on the academic record you submit.

The record must show dates of enrollment, courses taken, class rank where applicable, a description of the grading scale and the degree awarded or the expected conferral date.

Students with foreign academic work submit official copies of records directly from each school, along with a certified English translation (international applicants).

Since no evaluation agency stands between you and the admissions office, the translation is what the committee reads: translate the grading legend, the class rank and the degree certificate, not only the course list. On request we can email the translation directly to the admissions office.

Undergraduates: the UC-wide rule

First-year and transfer applicants follow the University of California rule.

College and university records not in English need certified translations, provided by the international university or by certified translators who know educational records and terminology.

Secondary records generally need no translation unless they are in a language with a non-Roman alphabet, in which case official translations are required (UC first-year records).

You apply with legible photocopies and send them when the Office of Admissions asks; official records are required by the campus you attend after you accept an offer. For course descriptions only, UC accepts a student translation when the university cannot provide one (UC transfer records).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For UC Merced that means we translate your records; the official records themselves must come from your schools.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does UC Merced require a credential evaluation for graduate admission?

Its international page names none; the Graduate Admissions Office determines equivalence from your records (Graduate Division: international application information).

Do I need to translate my high school records for UC Merced?

Generally not, unless they use a non-Roman alphabet; then official translations are required (UC: first-year international records).

Who may translate my university transcripts?

Your university or a certified translator who knows educational terminology, under the UC rule (UC: transfer international records). A certified translation from eVerbary qualifies.

Can I translate my course descriptions myself?

Under the UC rule, a student translation of course descriptions is accepted only if your university cannot translate them (UC: transfer international records).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
