University of California, Davis: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
UC Davis Graduate Studies wants non-English transcripts uploaded as one PDF with the original and an English translation, and after admission it wants authorized, complete and exact English translations issued by the university, a government agency or a certified translation agency. The University of California, Davis accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Undergraduates follow the shared UC rule, which accepts certified translators for college records; UC Davis adds its own delivery rules, and neither office requires a credential evaluation, which we do not provide.
One PDF
Graduate uploads combine the original record and its English translation.
Certified translation agency
Named for admitted graduate students' official records.
No registration without records
Graduate Studies must receive and verify them first.
UC Davis requirements at a glance
| What UC Davis asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation (graduate application) | Non-English transcripts are uploaded as a PDF with both the original and the English translation, from the issuing university, a WES, IERF or ECE evaluation, or a government-certified translator (source). |
| Translation (admitted graduate students) | Authorized, complete and exact English translations issued by the university, a government agency or a certified translation agency (source); the international page calls them certified English translations (source). |
| Graduate deadline | You cannot register for courses until Graduate Studies has received and verified your official records (source). |
| Graduate country examples | India: university-attested, sealed photocopies; China: original language with English translations, sealed by the university; Turkey and Vietnam: documents in both English and the original language (source). |
| Undergraduate translation | UC-wide: certified translations of college records by the university or certified translators; secondary records only if in a non-Roman alphabet (transfer, first-year). UC Davis pages add no translator rule of their own. |
| Undergraduate official records | Due July 1 (exam scores July 15), sent by the school electronically or in a sealed envelope; not a copy or notarized document (source). |
| Evaluation | Undergraduates must not use a credential evaluation service on the application (source). For graduate uploads, a WES, IERF or ECE evaluation is one way to supply the translation, not a requirement (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. UC Davis Graduate Studies accepts English translations issued by "a certified translation agency" for admitted students' official records (transcript requirements), and the UC-wide rule used for undergraduates accepts certified translators (UC transfer records); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. The upload page for applications words that option as a "government-certified translator" (source). Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

Graduate Studies: two stages, two wordings
Graduate programs at UC Davis no longer take paper at the application stage (source). You upload, in the Academic History section or later on your Application Status Page, an image of each transcript with everything an official one would show, front and back, plus the grading scale and proof of any degree earned. If the record is not in English, the upload is a single PDF holding the original and the English translation, and the upload page lists three acceptable sources: the issuing college or university, a WES, IERF or ECE evaluation, or a government-certified translator.
After admission the wording changes. The admitted-student requirements ask for official records in the original language with authorized, complete and exact English translations issued by the university, a government agency or a certified translation agency. Official means issued by the institution with the registrar's signature and seal; if a record cannot be replaced, send a copy signed by an academic official with seal and title, never an uncertified photocopy. Electronic records sent by the institution are usually processed in 2 to 3 business days, paper ones in up to 2 to 3 weeks, and you can also drop documents off at 2001 Walker Hall. Records become UC Davis property and are not returned.
The country list on the same page shows what Graduate Studies expects to see: Brazilian, Chilean and Mexican degree certificates and transcripts with an English translation; Chinese diplomas, degree certificates and transcripts in the original language with translations, sealed by the university; Indian mark sheets as university-attested, sealed photocopies; Turkish and Vietnamese documents in both English and the original language from the university.
Undergraduates: the UC rule, delivered the Davis way
The shared UC rule covers translation for undergraduates: certified translations of college records, by the university or a certified translator who knows educational terminology, and secondary records only if written in a non-Roman alphabet (UC). What UC Davis adds is delivery. You report grades exactly as they appear, without converting them or attaching an evaluation (source), and keep legible photocopies in case the international admission specialists ask for them (source).
Once admitted, records count as official only when issued and sent by the original institution or exam authority; records sealed or attested by notaries or other organizations are not official in most cases (source). Transfer students on a Transfer Admission Guarantee should be ready to send course descriptions with word-for-word English translations if asked (TAG FAQ); only courses from schools recognized by the education ministry count for credit (source).
Where UC Davis's pages differ
For graduate applicants, the upload page accepts a translation from a "government-certified translator", the admitted-student page accepts translations issued by "a certified translation agency", and the international applicants page speaks of certified English translations. We have not resolved this difference. If you want to upload an eVerbary translation with your application, ask Graduate Studies or your program first; for the official records you send after admission, the certified translation agency wording applies.
Documents applicants usually translate
- University transcripts (Histórico Escolar, Certificado de Notas, relevé de notes) and degree certificates
- Diploma Supplements and examination records
- The grading scale printed on or attached to the transcript
- Course descriptions, word for word, for Transfer Admission Guarantee students who are asked for them
- Secondary school records written in a non-Roman alphabet, for undergraduates
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UC Davis
Graduate applicants upload one PDF per institution with the original and the translation; admitted students have the institution email electronic records to Graduate Studies, or mail them to UC Davis Graduate Studies, Attn: Admitted Student Transcripts, 2001 Walker Hall, or drop them off in person (upload, admitted).
Admitted undergraduates send official records by July 1 through electronic providers such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse, or in a sealed envelope from the school (source). UC Davis pages do not say how a separate translation is sent; ask the international admission specialists.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At UC Davis that means we translate; the WES, IERF or ECE evaluation that Graduate Studies lists as an alternative comes from those agencies, and the official records themselves must come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a professional translation service for UC Davis graduate admission?
For the official records you send after admission, yes: Graduate Studies accepts translations issued by a certified translation agency (source). Its upload page for applications names a government-certified translator instead (source), so ask your program which applies to your upload.
Do I need a WES evaluation for UC Davis?
No. For graduate uploads, a WES, IERF or ECE evaluation is one option for supplying the translation (source); undergraduates are asked not to use an evaluation service at all (source).
When do admitted graduate students have to send official records?
Before registration: you cannot register for courses until Graduate Studies has received and verified them (source).
Do I need to translate my high school records for UC Davis undergraduate admission?
Under the UC rule, only if they use a non-Roman alphabet (source). Nothing official is sent until you are admitted; records are due July 1 (source).
What does UC Davis ask for in a Transfer Admission Guarantee?
Transcripts are not required with the TAG application, but you should be ready to submit course descriptions with word-for-word English translations if asked (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
