How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Suffolk asks international undergraduates for an official secondary school transcript in English and for college transcripts in English or with an official translation, and graduate applicants who skip the recommended NACES evaluation send official transcripts with an official English translation; no page says who must translate.

Suffolk University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Undergraduate Admissions first tries to evaluate foreign transcripts itself and asks for a NACES evaluation, at your cost, only if it cannot; evaluations come from an agency, not from us.

Suffolk at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Suffolk asks for transcripts "in English or with official translation" (international application process) and for "an official English translation" from graduate applicants (graduate international requirements), without restricting who makes it; a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Worth knowing about Suffolk

Read in-house first

Undergraduate Admissions tries to evaluate your transcript itself.

Translation or NACES

Graduate applicants choose; the evaluation is strongly encouraged.

One original only?

Graduate: send a certified, notarized copy.

Suffolk requirements in detail

Translation (undergraduate)

Official secondary school transcript in English (Undergraduate international students); college transcripts in English or with an official translation (International students: application process).

Translation (graduate)

Without an evaluation: official transcripts and mark sheets with an official English translation, if applicable (Graduate international students: application requirements).

Who may translate

Not stated.

Evaluation (undergraduate)

Only if Admissions cannot evaluate your transcript internally: a NACES evaluation at your cost, such as CED, WES, TEC or ECE; check with your counselor first (Undergraduate international students).

Evaluation (graduate)

A NACES course-by-course evaluation is strongly encouraged and may be required (Graduate international students: application requirements).

Deadlines (undergraduate)

Spring priority and fall Early Action November 15; fall priority February 15, then rolling (Undergraduate international students).

Single-copy transcripts

If your institution issues only one official document, graduate applicants send a certified, notarized copy (Graduate international students: application requirements).

Undergraduate: Suffolk reads your transcript first

Suffolk's undergraduate international checklist asks for an official secondary school transcript in English, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions says it will try to evaluate your transcript internally (Undergraduate international students).

Only if it cannot will it ask for a credential evaluation from a NACES member, at your cost, suggesting CED, WES, TEC or ECE, and it asks you to check with your admissions counselor before ordering one.

That makes the translation the document Suffolk reads in most cases. It should show the full record: every subject, mark and exam title, and the grading scale, translated rather than converted, so the counselor can read it without an agency report.

Graduate: evaluation encouraged, translation as the alternative

Graduate admission strongly encourages, and may require, an official course-by-course evaluation from any NACES member; it notes that the evaluator usually supplies your official documents, so separate transcripts may not be needed (Graduate international students: application requirements).

If you choose not to submit an evaluation, you send official transcripts and mark sheets from all post-secondary work with an official English translation where applicable.

If your university issues only one official copy, Suffolk asks for a certified, notarized copy of the transcript (Graduate international students: application requirements).

Applications are reviewed with unofficial transcripts, and admission is contingent on an official transcript arriving by the start of your first term (Graduate application requirements).

Where Suffolk's pages differ

The undergraduate international page suggests CED, WES, TEC or ECE, while the older international application process page suggests the Center for Educational Documentation, Josef Silny & Associates, WES and SpanTran, and still lists Fall 2018 deadlines.

We have not resolved that difference for you; ask your admissions counselor which agency to use before you order an evaluation.

For transfer credit, Suffolk accepts courses from international institutions recognized by their country's Ministry of Education and sends an official credit evaluation with the acceptance letter (How to apply as a transfer).

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Suffolk

  • Undergraduates apply through the Common Application or the Suffolk Application and check their file in the applicant portal (Undergraduate international students).

  • Graduate applicants apply online and upload unofficial transcripts with translations; officials, or the NACES evaluation, follow (international, requirements).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Suffolk that means we translate your records; a NACES evaluation, if Suffolk asks for one or you choose it for graduate admission, comes from an evaluation agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for Suffolk?

Suffolk asks for an official translation and does not say who must make it (undergraduate, graduate). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I need WES to apply to Suffolk as an undergraduate?

Usually not: Admissions tries to evaluate your transcript itself and asks for a NACES evaluation only if it cannot (Undergraduate international students).

Graduate: do I need an evaluation or a translation?

Suffolk strongly encourages a NACES course-by-course evaluation; without one, send official transcripts and mark sheets with an official English translation (Graduate international students: application requirements).

My university issues only one original transcript. What do I send?

A certified, notarized copy of your transcripts (Graduate international students: application requirements).

Will Suffolk tell me which courses transfer?

Admitted transfer students receive an official credit evaluation with their acceptance letter, for up to 75 credits (How to apply as a transfer).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
