Stevens Institute of Technology: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Stevens asks international first-year applicants for a certified translation of any high school transcript not in English, and its Ph.D. application asks for a word-for-word English translation from a certified translator, noting that Stevens has no preferred translating service. Stevens Institute of Technology accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. International transfers also need a WES, ECE, TEC or other NACES evaluation of their college transcripts, which we do not provide.

What Stevens asks for
Translation, first-yearAn official high school transcript; if it is not in English, a certified translation (source).
Who may translateNot limited for undergraduates. For Ph.D. applicants, a certified English translator; Stevens has no preferred service and suggests the US Embassy or consulate as a place to find recognized translators (source).
TransfersHigh school and non-US college transcripts translated to English, a credential evaluation report from WES, ECE, TEC (formerly SpanTran) or another NACES member, and a translated syllabus for every course you want evaluated (source).
Where to uploadFirst-year: the Common Application. Transfers: syllabi and a Transfer Credit Evaluation Form in the Stevens student portal; transcripts come from your previous institutions (source).
Graduate (master's)The central checklist does not mention translations. Unofficial transcripts can be attached to the application; official ones must arrive directly from each institution before the first day of classes (source).
Ph.D. after admissionThe official sealed transcript and the sealed word-for-word translation are handed to Graduate Admissions on arrival; the envelope must carry the university seal or the translator's endorsement (source).
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. Stevens' undergraduate international page asks for a "certified translation" without limiting who makes it (international admissions), and its Ph.D. page accepts a word-for-word translation from a certified English translator and names no preferred service (Ph.D. application). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Policy checked on October 13, 2026.

Ph.D. applicants: word for word, then sealed on arrival

The Ph.D. application page is the most detailed translation rule at Stevens. If a mark sheet, diploma, degree certificate or academic record is not in English, you upload both the original-language document and a word-for-word English translation from a certified English translator. Stevens says it has no preferred translating service.

The second step comes after admission: you bring the official transcript and the word-for-word translation, each sealed, to the Graduate Admissions office when you arrive, and the outside of the envelope must show the university seal or the translator's endorsement. Plan who will seal the translation before you travel; the PDF you uploaded with the application is not the copy Stevens keeps.

Transfers: an evaluation and a translated syllabus for each course

An international transfer to Stevens sends more than a transcript. Every non-US college transcript has to be translated to English and accompanied by an evaluation from WES, ECE, TEC or another NACES member, and each course you want credit for needs a detailed syllabus in English (source).

The syllabi and a Transfer Credit Evaluation Form go into your Stevens student portal, while official transcripts must come from your previous institutions (source). Stevens can admit you before the credit evaluation is finished, and you can ask for more courses to be evaluated later through Workday. Syllabi are often long; translating only the courses you are submitting keeps the cost down.

Where Stevens' pages differ

Stevens uses different words at each level: a "certified translation" for first-year transcripts (undergraduate), transcripts "translated to English" for transfers, and a word-for-word translation from a certified English translator for Ph.D. applicants (Ph.D.). The central graduate checklist for master's applicants does not mention translations at all. We have not resolved that difference for you; a certified, complete translation fits every version, and master's applicants unsure of their program's rule can ask Graduate Admissions.

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Stevens

First-year applicants attach the translation to the transcript in the Common Application; financial documents and the Financial Verification Form go to the Stevens student portal (source).

Graduate applicants attach unofficial transcripts and translations to the online application (source); Ph.D. applicants then bring the sealed transcript and sealed translation on arrival (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Stevens transfers, the WES, ECE or TEC evaluation of your college work comes from the agency; we translate the transcripts and syllabi that go with it.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my high school transcript for Stevens?

Stevens asks for a certified translation and does not limit who makes it (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary fits that rule.

Does Stevens have a preferred translation service for Ph.D. applicants?

No. The Ph.D. page says Stevens has no preferred translating service and asks for a word-for-word translation from a certified English translator (source).

Do my course syllabi need to be translated for transfer credit?

Yes. Stevens requires a detailed syllabus in English for every course you want evaluated, uploaded to the student portal with a Transfer Credit Evaluation Form (international page, transfer process).

Which evaluation agencies does Stevens accept for transfers?

WES, ECE, TEC (formerly SpanTran) or any other NACES member (source).

Can I send unofficial transcripts with my master's application?

Yes, as attachments in the application. Official transcripts must come directly from each institution before the first day of classes (source).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
