How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Stephen F. Austin State University requires every international applicant to submit course-by-course credential evaluations with a cumulative GPA for schools outside the US: secondary schools for freshmen, secondary and post-secondary for transfers, post-secondary for graduate students.
SFA's evaluation agencies, such as WES, FCSA and IEE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the company; the evaluation is something we do not produce.
SFA at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
SFA asks for a course-by-course evaluation from a recognized company and names six (undergraduate admissions), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES rule), as do FCSA, IEE and SDR; The Evaluation Company wants a translator certified by ATA. SFA requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; SFA reads foreign records through the evaluation, and the company needs the translation (International undergraduate admissions).
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation company; see below.
Evaluation
Course-by-course with a cumulative GPA: all secondary schools for freshmen; secondary and post-secondary for transfers (International undergraduate admissions).
Graduate
Course-by-course evaluations for every post-secondary school outside the US; official transcripts for US schools (graduate admissions).
Companies
Most recognized companies; SFA has had success with Atlas, FCSA, IEE, SDR (Credential Connection), TEC and WES, some with discounts through its links (International undergraduate admissions).
Transfer credit
Syllabi may be required for the courses you want transferred (International undergraduate admissions).
Where it goes
Application portal, international@sfasu.edu, or mail to the Office of International Programs (International undergraduate admissions).
What each evaluation company asks for the translation
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants.
FCSA accepts certified translations from most professional agencies and lets you or a relative translate Spanish documents. IEE wants a certified translator and refuses translations by the client or a notary public. SDR, in Houston, asks for certified translations.
The Evaluation Company asks that an outside translator be certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in-house after your application; if you pick TEC, ask eVerbary for a free quote and say it is for TEC. Atlas is also on SFA's list; check its own page for the translation rule.
A GPA for every applicant
Unlike many universities that read a high school record directly, SFA asks freshmen too for a course-by-course evaluation with a cumulative GPA (International undergraduate admissions).
Ask your company for that report type, not a document-by-document one, and translate every year of secondary school records, with the grading scale, so the GPA can be calculated.
Transfers add every post-secondary school and may need syllabi; graduate applicants evaluate every post-secondary school abroad (International graduate admissions).
Need a certified translation for SFA?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and diploma, every year
- University transcripts or mark sheets
- Degree certificates
- Course syllabi, for transfer credit
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to SFA
The translation goes to the evaluation company with your records; you then upload the evaluation to the SFA application portal, email it to international@sfasu.edu or mail it, unless the company sends it for you (International undergraduate admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For SFA that means we translate your records; the course-by-course evaluation with GPA is ordered by you from the company you choose.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
