Southwestern Adventist University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Non-US transcripts also need an evaluation from WES or a similar NACES member, sent to the Office of Enrollment Management, which we do not provide.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

Southwestern Adventist requirements in detail

Translation

Certified English translations of all documents not originally in English (International: transcripts).

Who may translate

Required documents

Official academic records from all secondary or post-secondary schools attended, and the original documents in the native language (International: transcripts).

Evaluation

Non-US transcripts evaluated by a professional third-party service; WES or a similar NACES member recommended; sent directly to the Office of Enrollment Management (International: transcripts).

Transfer

International transcripts evaluated by an approved service such as WES; credit for grades of C- or higher; ESL and developmental courses do not transfer (Transfer admissions).

On arrival

If you applied with copies, bring the originals so the university can make certified copies (International: transcripts).

Original, translation and evaluation for each record

Southwestern Adventist, in Keene, Texas, lists three items for every school you attended abroad: the official academic record, the original document in its native language, and a certified English translation if it is not in English (international transcripts).

It does not say who must translate, so a certified translation from a professional service, covering every page and the grading scale, meets the rule.

On top of that, transcripts from non-US institutions must be evaluated by a professional third-party evaluation service, and the evaluation goes directly to the Office of Enrollment Management.

The university recommends WES or a similar NACES member. If you applied with copies, bring the originals when you arrive so the office can make certified copies for your file.

Transferring from a college abroad or in the US

International students follow the same first-year or transfer steps as domestic applicants, with extra documents for the visa; the campus enrolls students from over 38 countries (international admissions).

Transfer credit comes from regionally accredited institutions for courses with a C- or higher; community college courses come in as lower-division credit, and technical, developmental, ESL and non-credit courses do not transfer.

International transcripts must first be evaluated by an approved third-party service such as WES, and transfer students attend a required orientation before each semester (transfer admissions).

What WES asks for the translation

WES, the agency Southwestern Adventist recommends, wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, and does not accept translations by the applicant, family or friends; it does not translate documents itself.

The same certified translation can go to the university with your records and to WES with your evaluation order. Other NACES members set their own rules; check before ordering.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Southwestern Adventist

  • Send the official records, the native-language originals and the certified translations to Southwestern Adventist with your application; have WES or another NACES member send the evaluation directly to the Office of Enrollment Management (International: transcripts).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Southwestern Adventist that means we translate your records and diplomas; the evaluation comes from WES or another NACES member.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
