The University of Texas at Arlington: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

UT Arlington requires every transcript from outside the US, at all levels, to be uploaded to its partner Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA) for evaluation, and records not in English must go with a literal, word-for-word English translation made by a qualified disinterested third party, typically a professional translation company, a university or a government agency. The University of Texas at Arlington accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. FCSA can also translate for $50, but only for its own evaluation; the FCSA evaluation itself ($90) is required and is not something we provide.

Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. UT Arlington's admissions office says certified translations must be made by a qualified disinterested third party, typically a professional translation company, university or government agency (submitting transcripts); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation, and you upload it to FCSA with a copy of the original. One evaluator for everyone: FCSA

UT Arlington does not leave the choice of evaluation agency to you. It is partnered with Foreign Credentials Service of America, and every transcript from a non-US institution, for first-year, transfer and graduate applicants alike, must be uploaded to FCSA for review, for a $90 processing fee collected at upload (submitting transcripts). International first-year applicants from non-US high schools skip the STARS self-report that US applicants use and go straight to FCSA. The FCSA evaluation includes a course comparison report, which UTA can use to award course equivalency credit to first-year and transfer students.

Graduate applicants pay a separate $90 application evaluation charge to UTA when they have coursework from outside the US (catalog), on top of FCSA's fee.

Your translation, or FCSA's

If your records are not in English, you upload a literal, word-for-word English translation to FCSA with a copy of the original record. UTA says who may make it: a qualified disinterested third party, typically a professional translation company, a university or a government agency (submitting transcripts). A translation you make yourself does not meet that description.

FCSA offers to translate for $50, but UTA notes that FCSA's translation is used only to complete the evaluation and is not given to you or to any institution receiving the report. If you are also applying to other universities, or will need the translation again for a visa, licensing or employer, a certified translation you own can be uploaded to FCSA and reused elsewhere.

Where UT Arlington's pages differ

The admissions website routes everything through an upload to FCSA and describes the translation as literal and word-for-word, from a disinterested third party or FCSA (submitting transcripts). The catalog describes paper rules instead: the undergraduate catalog asks for records attested as true copies by your school (or UT Arlington) with complete and official English translations, and the graduate catalog asks for an exact word-for-word translation bearing the original university or translation agency attestation, sent with records issued directly by the registrar. The pages do not say how those catalog rules apply to the FCSA upload, and we have not resolved it for you; ask UTA Admissions if you are unsure which applies.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to UT Arlington

Upload the copy of your original record and its English translation to FCSA through the FCSA link on UTA's international first-year, transfer or graduate page; FCSA collects its $90 fee at upload (source).

Graduate applicants can have their application processed on unofficial transcripts and degree verification, but all official transcripts must reach UTA before arrival (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At UT Arlington that means we translate your records; the FCSA evaluation and course comparison report come from FCSA.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my transcript for UT Arlington?

A qualified disinterested third party, typically a professional translation company, a university or a government agency (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I need FCSA even if my transcript is in English?

Yes. All international transcripts must be evaluated by FCSA, for a $90 fee; only US transcripts go to UTA directly (source).

Should I let FCSA translate my documents for $50?

You can, but FCSA's translation is used only for the evaluation and is not provided to you or to other institutions (source). If you need the translation anywhere else, order your own.

Does UT Arlington accept notarized copies?

The undergraduate catalog says notarized copies are not used for admission; records should be attested as true copies by the school you attended (source).

What do graduate applicants with marksheets need?

Transcripts or marksheets and a degree verification issued by the registrar, and, if not in English, an exact word-for-word translation with university or translation agency attestation (source).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
