Southern Utah University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Southern Utah University (SUU) requires every international college transcript to be evaluated by an approved credential evaluation company, TEC preferred, with IEE, WES, IERF, ECE, EEI and Atlas also listed, for transfer credit and graduate admission. SUU's evaluation agencies, such as WES, IERF, ECE and IEE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translation comes first and goes to the agency, which then sends SUU the evaluation; SUU also wants a syllabus in English for each course, and it reads foreign high school transcripts itself.
TEC preferred
Six other approved evaluation companies are listed.
Syllabus in English
One per course, or the credit comes in as elective.
High school: SUU reads it
Converted to a 4.0 scale; 2.0 minimum.
SUU requirements at a glance
| What SUU asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | No SUU page asks for one; the admissions policy and the international pages are silent on it. The evaluation company needs it before it can evaluate a record not in English. |
| Evaluation | All international college transcripts, by an approved company: TEC (preferred), IEE, WES, IERF, ECE, EEI or Atlas, showing lower or upper division credit per course (SUU International Student Services: international credits). |
| Who may translate | Set by the agency: WES wants a professional translator, IEE a certified one, TEC an ATA-certified one, and ECE accepts the applicant's own (WES, IEE, TEC, ECE). |
| Course syllabi | A syllabus in English for each class on the transcript, for a complete articulation of credit (policy 6.47). |
| High school records | On an official school document showing the school, dates, grading system, subjects and grades; SUU converts them to a 4.0 scale, 2.0 minimum (SUU: international undergraduate admission requirements, policy 6.16). |
| Graduate applicants | The same evaluation rule applies to international college transcripts (SUU: international graduate admission requirements); Graduate Studies accepts an equivalent international degree from an accredited school (SUU Graduate Studies: admission guidelines). |
| Where to send | The evaluation to intladm@suu.edu; syllabi to intltransferarticulation@suu.edu or through SUU's secure upload platform. |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. SUU asks for an evaluation from TEC, IEE, WES, IERF, ECE, EEI or Atlas (international credits), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES), as do IERF, ECE and IEE (IERF, ECE, IEE). TEC, SUU's preferred company, wants an outside translator certified by ATA (TEC). Policy checked on October 13, 2026. |

Two papers for college credit: the evaluation and the syllabi
SUU's international credits page asks for an evaluation that shows, course by course, whether each class is lower or upper division. That report alone gets you credit, but for a course-to-course match SUU's transfer articulation policy also wants a syllabus in English for every class on the transcript; without one, the course comes in as elective credit.
Syllabi are often long, and SUU does not say who may translate them. Before translating a whole set, check which courses you actually need matched to an SUU requirement (a prerequisite, a major course) and translate those first; the rest can come in as electives. The registrar's transfer FAQ sends international students to the same international credits steps.
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
TEC, SUU's preferred company, wants an outside translator certified by the American Translators Association, or its own in-house team, whose translation can be ordered only after the evaluation application is complete (TEC). If you choose TEC, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request: ask for a free quote and note it is for TEC.
WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service, uploaded in your WES account; it does not translate (WES). IERF wants line-by-line, word-for-word, typed translations in the original layout, and may require a professional one (IERF). IEE accepts a certified translator, not the applicant or a notary, and sells its own at $60 per page (IEE). ECE lets applicants translate their own documents word-for-word, or sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally for the report only (ECE).
We have not reviewed the translation rules of EEI or Atlas, the other two companies on SUU's list; check them on the agency's own site.
High school: SUU converts the grades itself
Freshman applicants do not need an evaluation. SUU's undergraduate requirements say foreign transcripts are converted to a US 4.0 scale and must reach a 2.0, and policy 6.16 asks for an official school document listing the school, the dates enrolled, the grading system, the subjects and the grades. Neither says anything about translation, so if your records are not in English, ask international admissions what it wants before you apply.
Documents applicants usually translate
- University transcripts (all years), for the evaluation company
- Degree certificate or diploma, for graduate applicants
- Course syllabi, one per class, for course-by-course articulation
- Secondary school transcripts, if admissions asks for them in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to SUU
The translation goes to the evaluation company with your records: TEC through its online application, WES in your WES account, IEE with its application (TEC, WES, IEE). The company sends its evaluation to SUU, at intladm@suu.edu (SUU International Student Services: international credits).
Syllabi in English go to SUU directly, by email to intltransferarticulation@suu.edu or through SUU's secure upload platform (SUU International Student Services: international credits).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95 per page.
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for SUU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office). We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them. For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For SUU that means we translate your transcripts and syllabi; the evaluation from TEC or another approved company is ordered by you after the translation is ready.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Does SUU require a translation of my transcripts?
SUU publishes no translation rule. Your international college transcripts must go to an approved evaluation company (SUU International Student Services: international credits), and that company requires a translation of records not in English.
Which evaluation company should I use for SUU?
TEC is preferred; IEE, WES, IERF, ECE, EEI and Atlas are also approved (SUU International Student Services: international credits). The report should show lower or upper division credit per course.
Do I need to translate my course syllabi?
For a direct course equivalency, yes: SUU asks for a syllabus in English for each class; without it, you receive elective credit (policy 6.47).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?
Yes, on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English. Ask for a free quote and say it is for a TEC evaluation for SUU; we confirm the translator and price before you pay. TEC's rule is on its own page.
Does my foreign high school diploma need an evaluation?
No. SUU converts foreign high school transcripts to a 4.0 scale itself (SUU: international undergraduate admission requirements).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
