Seattle University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Seattle University asks international undergraduate and transfer applicants for transcripts from every secondary and post-secondary school attended, each with a certified English language translation, and does not say who must make the translation. Seattle University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Copies are enough for the admission decision, but the official records must come directly from your school before you enroll, and that delivery is something only the school can do.

A certified translation for every school, from grade 9

Seattle U asks for transcripts covering the equivalent of US grades 9 to 11, and grade 12 if completed, recognizing that grade 9 is lower secondary in many countries but still wanting at least three years of coursework (International undergraduate admission). Each transcript not in English needs a certified English translation, and so does every post-secondary transcript. Transfer students with more than 45 quarter or 30 semester transferable credits can skip the secondary records.

The policy says "certified" and stops there: it names no translator type. A certified translation from a professional service, with a signed statement of accuracy, is what that wording usually means. If your school system uses national exams (GCSE/IGCSE, WAEC, KCSE, Gaokao, Indian Boards), include those results, translated where needed (International undergraduate admission).

Copies to apply, officials from the school before you enroll

Copies are accepted for the admission decision. After admission and before you enroll, Seattle U needs official documents, meaning records sent directly to it by the school or organization that issued them (International undergraduate admission). Its list of acceptable routes is wider than most: postal mail, Parchment or eScript, an upload by your school counselor through the Common Application, or an email sent from a school-related address. Each transcript must carry the school's seal or stamp.

After you apply, the Redhawk Admissions Portal shows a personalized checklist; the application is reviewed once every item on it is in. Seattle U recommends applying at least three months before the term, with Early Action on November 1 and Regular Decision on January 15 for fall, and does not admit new international students for summer (International undergraduate admission).

Graduate and law: evaluation is not translation

Graduate Admissions evaluates foreign academic records itself, and states that its evaluation is not an English translation but a separate document on degree equivalency and GPA (International graduate admission). You upload unofficial transcripts in the Academic History tab and send officials, in the issuing school's envelope or through a secure institution-to-institution system, within your first quarter. Applicants with non-graded transcripts or a three-year degree must send GRE or GMAT scores. Overseas applicants should apply six months ahead; the fall priority date is July 25.

The School of Law runs its own process: JD applicants submit foreign transcripts through LSAC's Credential Assembly Service, where AACRAO prepares a foreign credential evaluation for the LSAC report (School of Law: international students applying for the JD).

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Seattle U

Undergraduates upload copies with the certified translations through the application and the Redhawk Admissions Portal. After admission, the school sends the officials directly to Seattle University Admissions Office, 901 12th Ave, PO Box 222000, Seattle, WA 98122-1090, or by an approved electronic route (International undergraduate admission).

Graduate applicants upload transcripts in the Academic History tab or later on the Status Page; officials go to the Office of Graduate Admission at the same address (International graduate admission).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Seattle U, we translate your records; the official copies sent directly by your school, the graduate evaluation done by Seattle U, and the LSAC report for law are outside what we do.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my transcripts for Seattle University?

The international undergraduate checklist asks for certified English translations without naming who must make them (International undergraduate admission). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.

Do I need translations for my high school and my university records?

Yes, for each transcript from every secondary and post-secondary school attended; transfers with more than 45 quarter credits can skip the secondary ones (International undergraduate admission).

Can I apply with copies?

Yes. Copies are accepted for the admission decision; official documents are required after admission and before enrolling (International undergraduate admission).

Does Seattle U require a WES evaluation for graduate admission?

No. Graduate Admissions evaluates foreign records itself and notes that the evaluation is not a translation (International graduate admission).

How do law school applicants send foreign transcripts?

Through LSAC's Credential Assembly Service (School of Law: international students applying for the JD).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
