Purdue University Northwest: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Purdue University Northwest (PNW) asks international undergraduates for records in the original language with a certified, detailed English translation, and its pages do not limit who makes it. Purdue University Northwest accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. International Admissions evaluates undergraduate credentials itself, so no WES or ECE report is needed; Graduate Studies has its own, stricter wording, described below.
No WES needed
International Admissions evaluates undergraduate credentials itself.
Ministry seal counts
An envelope sealed by the school or the ministry is official.
Copies first
Unofficial uploads start the file; sealed originals come later.
PNW requirements at a glance
| What PNW asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | Undergraduate: records in the original language with a certified, detailed English translation (how to apply, documentation). |
| Who may translate | Not stated on the undergraduate pages. Graduate Studies asks for a translation certified by the college or university that issued the document (Graduate Studies). |
| Evaluation | Undergraduate: none required; International Admissions does it, and accepts a WES or ECE report if you already have one (How to apply: international undergraduates). Graduate: a NACES course-by-course report only if the program cannot evaluate your records (Graduate Studies: international graduate students). |
| Where to upload | Undergraduate: the status page of the PNW online application, under "upload materials" (How to apply: international undergraduates). Graduate: the Purdue graduate application (Graduate Studies: international graduate students). |
| Official copies | An envelope sealed by the school, college, university, examination board or local ministry of education, sent or hand-delivered when you enroll (International undergraduates: documentation requirements, how to apply). |
| Deadlines | Undergraduate: June 1 for fall, October 15 for spring (How to apply: international undergraduates). Graduate, applicants outside the U.S.: April 30 for fall, October 15 for spring; programs may differ (Graduate Studies: international graduate students). |
| Transfer applicants | Transcripts from every college in every country, even without a degree, mailed sealed by the institution; no high school records after more than 12 semester hours; $55 fee (how to apply, documentation). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. PNW's international undergraduate pages ask for "a certified, detailed translation" of records not in English without saying who must make it (how to apply, documentation requirements), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that rule. Undergraduates: PNW reads your records itself
Many universities send international applicants to an evaluation agency first. PNW does not, at undergraduate level: its International Admissions office "completes the credential evaluation" for undergraduate and non-degree students and does not require a WES or ECE report, though it will take one if you already have it (How to apply: international undergraduates). That makes the English translation the document PNW's staff actually read, next to the original-language record.
PNW's documentation requirements list the papers it expects country by country: for India, the Grade X and Grade XII Board certificates; for Mexico, the Certificado de Estudios for the last three years of secondary school and a copy of the Bachillerato; for Nigeria, the WAEC scratch card details and the Senior School Certificate; for IB students, grades 9 to 12 and the IB diploma. Each of those documents, if not in English, needs its translation. We translate certificate titles as issued and keep every subject and mark, because the office compares them with its own country table.
Start with copies, finish with sealed originals
PNW accepts unofficial copies to open an international file: you upload them, with their translations, on the status page of the online application (How to apply: international undergraduates). Official documents come later, on matriculation, in an envelope sealed by the secondary school, college, university or examination board; the documentation page also accepts an envelope sealed by the local ministry of education (International undergraduates: documentation requirements).
Transfer applicants are asked for transcripts from every college or university attended in every country, even where no degree was completed, mailed in a sealed envelope by the institution. If you have more than 12 semester hours of college work, PNW does not need your high school records (International undergraduates: documentation requirements). A certified translation can travel in your own upload for the decision; the sealed originals are what the school sends.
Where PNW's pages differ
The undergraduate pages ask for a "certified, detailed" English translation without naming who certifies it (how to apply). Graduate Studies asks for an English translation "certified by the college or university that issued it", adds that credential evaluation reports are not accepted as official academic records, and wants transcripts sent to grad@pnw.edu by the issuing university (Graduate Studies, FAQ). The College of Technology graduate page asks for two true and attested transcript copies "with true and attested English translations", and the original diploma with an attested translation, without naming who attests them.
We have not resolved that difference for you. If you are applying to a graduate program, ask Graduate Studies or your program whether a certified translation from a professional service is enough for your file, or whether your university must certify it. Notarization can be added at checkout for $34.90 per order if your program asks for an attested translation.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts for the final years and a copy of the final diploma
- National exam certificates, such as the Indian Board certificates or the Mexican Certificado de Bachillerato
- University transcripts from every institution attended, for transfer applicants
- Degree certificates and diplomas, for graduate applicants
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to PNW
Undergraduate and transfer: upload copies of your records and their certified translations on the status page of the PNW online application, under "upload materials"; when you enroll, bring or have sent the originals in envelopes sealed by the issuing school or ministry (how to apply, documentation).
Graduate: upload transcripts and translations to the Purdue graduate application; official transcripts go to grad@pnw.edu from the issuing university, or through Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse (Graduate Studies: how to apply, FAQ).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For PNW that means we translate your records; the sealed official copies come from your school or ministry, and a graduate program that wants the issuing university to certify the translation needs that from the university.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a WES or ECE evaluation for PNW undergraduate admission?
No. International Admissions completes the credential evaluation for undergraduates and does not require WES or ECE, though it accepts a report you already have (How to apply: international undergraduates).
Who can translate my high school records for PNW?
The undergraduate pages ask for a certified, detailed English translation and do not restrict who makes it (How to apply: international undergraduates). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.
Can I apply with unofficial copies?
Yes. PNW accepts unofficial copies to start the process; sealed originals are required when you enroll (How to apply: international undergraduates).
Is a WES report enough for a PNW graduate program?
No. Graduate Studies says evaluation reports are not accepted as official academic records; a NACES course-by-course evaluation is asked for only when the program cannot evaluate your credentials (Graduate Studies, international graduate).
Does the College of Technology accept a three-year bachelor's degree?
In most cases no, according to its graduate admissions page, which also asks for two attested transcript copies with attested English translations.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
