How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Point Loma Nazarene University does not translate or evaluate foreign transcripts itself: international undergraduates send a course-by-course evaluation with a numeric GPA from a NACES or AICE member, with discounted links to IEE, ACEI, The Evaluation Company, IERF and ECE, and graduate applicants with a degree from abroad must have all documents translated into English and evaluated by a NACES member.

PLNU's evaluation agencies, such as ECE, IERF and IEE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

PLNU at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

PLNU asks for a course-by-course evaluation with a GPA from a NACES or AICE member and lists five partner agencies (undergraduate admissions), and ECE accepts a certified translation from a professional service (ECE rules); IERF and IEE do as well, while ACEI and The Evaluation Company ask for an ATA-certified translator. Worth knowing about PLNU

Five partner agencies

IEE, ACEI, TEC, IERF and ECE, at a discount.

GPA on the report

A numeric GPA, course by course.

Graduate: translate first

Then a NACES evaluation.

PLNU requirements in detail

Translation

Undergraduate: no rule of its own; PLNU says it is not responsible for translating or evaluating foreign records (Undergraduate admissions: how to apply, international). Graduate: all documents translated into English and evaluated (Graduate international student support).

Who may translate

Not stated by PLNU; set by the evaluation agency. ECE, IERF and IEE accept professional translations; ACEI and TEC want ATA-certified translators.

Evaluation (first-year)

Course by course with a GPA: IEE Education Course Report, ACEI Comprehensive High School Report, TEC Course Analysis, IERF Detail Report or ECE course-by-course (Undergraduate admissions: how to apply, international).

Evaluation (transfer)

Course by course with descriptions or course level: for example an IERF Detail Report with Course Level Identification or a TEC Divisional Course Analysis (Undergraduate admissions: how to apply, international).

Evaluation (graduate)

By a NACES member, course by course with a GPA (Graduate international student support).

Other agencies

Any NACES or AICE member offering a course-by-course evaluation with a numeric GPA (Undergraduate admissions: how to apply, international).

Which report to order for PLNU

PLNU's undergraduate admissions page names a report type for each partner and each applicant type.

First-year applicants ask IEE for an Education Course Report, ACEI for a Comprehensive High School Report, The Evaluation Company for a Course Analysis, IERF for a Detail Report or ECE for a course-by-course; transfer applicants ask for the post-secondary or course-level versions, such as ACEI's Comprehensive Course-by-Course Report, TEC's Divisional Course Analysis, IERF's Detail Report with Course Level Identification or ECE's high school and university course by course.

Any other NACES or AICE member also works if the report is course by course with a numeric GPA, and for transfer with course descriptions.

Graduate applicants follow the graduate checklist: official transcripts proving a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, and for a degree earned outside the US, all documents translated into English and evaluated by NACES members, course by course with a GPA. For the high school record, see high school diploma translation.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, even your own, or sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally.

IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and may require a professional one. IEE wants a certified translator, not the applicant or a notary.

Two partners are stricter. ACEI accepts translations in the US only from ATA-certified translators, and The Evaluation Company accepts outside translations only from translators certified by ATA, or translates in-house.

If you pick one of them, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request for the languages ATA certifies.

Need a certified translation for PLNU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificate
  • University transcripts and course descriptions, for transfer

What an eVerbary translation includes

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for PLNU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For PLNU that means we translate your records for the agency; the course-by-course evaluation with GPA is ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does PLNU translate or evaluate my foreign transcripts?

No. PLNU says it is not responsible for translating or evaluating foreign transcripts or coursework (Undergraduate admissions: how to apply, international).

Which evaluation should a first-year applicant order?

A course-by-course evaluation with a GPA; PLNU names the report for each partner, such as IERF's Detail Report (Undergraduate admissions: how to apply, international).

Can I use an eVerbary translation with ECE or IERF?

Yes. Both accept translations from professional services (ECE, IERF).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for ACEI or TEC?

Yes, on request through a free quote, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page). ATA certifies no other languages into English (TEC, ACEI).

Do graduate applicants need translations?

Yes. For a degree earned outside the US, all documents must be translated into English and evaluated by NACES members (Graduate international student support).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
