San Diego State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Some country rules are stricter, such as Iran for graduate study.

SDSU requirements in detail
Translation (first-year)
Certified, literal English translation of each transcript and diploma not in English, including all information, in the same format (International first-year steps to apply).
Who may translate
The high school that issued the records or a professional certified translator (International first-year steps to apply).
Upload or sealed
Unofficial transcripts and translations uploaded in my.SDSU for review; official transcripts at Intent to Enroll (International first-year steps to apply). The country page describes sealed envelopes for records and translations (requirements by country).
Graduate
Official certified literal translation from the university or a certified translator, or an IERF or WES course-by-course report (International graduate steps to apply).
Country rules
Each country has its own list of first-year records (International first-year requirements by country); graduate applicants from Iran need translations stamped by Iran's Ministry of Justice (Graduate requirements by country).
Transfers
If all your coursework is from outside the US, contact Transfer Admissions before applying; fall 2027 filing is October 1–November 30 (International transfer students).
Application
Cal State Apply with a $70 fee, before any documents (International first-year steps to apply).
First-year applicants: literal, complete, same format
SDSU's rule for international first-year applicants is specific about the translation itself.
Each transcript and the diploma or graduation certificate needs a certified English translation from your high school or from a professional certified translator, and it must include all information in the original and follow its format as closely as possible (steps to apply).
The requirements by country page adds the word literal and lists, country by country, which records SDSU wants, such as grade reports for each year of secondary school and a certified copy of the diploma or exam certificate. See also high school diploma translation.
For review, you upload unofficial transcripts and the translations as PDFs in my.SDSU after applying through Cal State Apply.
If admitted, you send official transcripts as part of the Intent to Enroll process and final documents before orientation (International first-year steps to apply).
The country page describes records arriving sealed from the school or Ministry of Education and translations in sealed envelopes, and recommends requesting more than one official transcript when a translation is needed (International first-year requirements by country). eVerbary can mail the translation in a sealed, signed envelope: choose the hard copy at checkout with the address SDSU gives you ($19.95 Priority or $37.95 Express in the US) and write in the order notes that it is for SDSU.
Graduate applicants: translation or an IERF/WES report
Graduate Admissions asks for transcripts and degree certificates from every post-secondary school, in the original language and with an official certified literal English translation from the university or a certified translator (graduate steps).
You then choose how to deliver them: an IERF course-by-course detail report with course levels or a WES ICAP course-by-course report, sent electronically by the agency (no further documents unless a degree is in progress), or official documents in a sealed envelope stamped or signed by the issuing institution. Processing takes at least three weeks.
The graduate country list has its own rules.
Applicants from Iran must submit professional English translations stamped and approved by Iran's Ministry of Justice; for the Philippines, coursework in Pilipino or Tagalog needs a translation (graduate requirements by country). eVerbary cannot provide a Ministry of Justice stamp.
Need a certified translation for SDSU?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school grade reports for each year of study
- High school diploma, graduation or final examination certificate
- University transcripts and degree certificates (graduate)
- Diploma supplements, where issued
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to SDSU
First-year: upload the certified translation next to each unofficial transcript and diploma in my.SDSU after your Cal State Apply application; do not send duplicates (International first-year steps to apply).
Graduate: send the translation with the official documents to Graduate Admissions, or to IERF or WES for a course-by-course report that the agency sends electronically (International graduate steps to apply).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For SDSU that means we translate your records; the IERF or WES report graduate applicants may choose is ordered from the agency, and stamps from a foreign ministry are outside what we do.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my transcripts for SDSU?
Your high school or a professional certified translator (International first-year steps to apply). San Diego State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Does the translation have to be literal?
Yes. SDSU asks for a certified, literal translation that includes all information on the original, in the same format (International first-year requirements by country).
Can I upload unofficial documents to apply to SDSU?
First-year applicants can: unofficial transcripts are accepted for review, and official ones are required if you are admitted (International first-year steps to apply).
Do graduate applicants need a WES evaluation?
It is one option. You may send an IERF or WES course-by-course report, or official documents with certified translations in a sealed envelope (International graduate steps to apply).
I studied in Iran. What does SDSU need for graduate admission?
Professional English translations stamped and approved by the Ministry of Justice of Iran (Graduate requirements by country).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
