Oregon State University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Oregon State University wants records in English and in the native language; when the school does not issue English transcripts, its Office of International Admissions accepts literal, not interpretative, English translations from any qualified translator, for undergraduate and graduate students alike. Oregon State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. It does not ask for an evaluation agency report, but graduate records must come sealed from the issuing school, which we cannot do for you.

Literal, from any qualified translator, with the original

Oregon State's rule has two parts. First, it wants the record in the native language as well as in English, so the translation never replaces the original (source). Second, when your school does not issue English transcripts, it accepts literal (not interpretative) English translations from any qualified translator. Literal means the translation renders what is printed, including grades, scales and notes, without adapting them to US terms. That is how we translate: grades are never converted.

Oregon State is precise about email. Transcripts and translations can be emailed, but only if the sender's address is an official address of the organization that issued the transcript or the translation (source); a translation forwarded from your personal email does not meet that line. Mailing the translation with your records to the Office of International Admissions in Corvallis is the other route.

Your offer letter decides which documents

Undergraduates do not have to guess. The Official Documents section of your offer and confirmation letters lists every record required at enrollment and the institution or organization it must come from, such as your high school, the Ministry of Education or your sponsor, and whether it must arrive in a sealed envelope (source). Transfer students' university transcripts must come directly from the university. Until the records arrive, a registration hold stays on your account.

Transfer applicants can enter directly or through the Undergraduate Transfer Program, which estimates transferable credits before you arrive (source). The general undergraduate deadlines page lists, for Corvallis campus applicants, Early Action on Nov 2, 2026 and the priority deadline on Feb 1, 2027; confirm the international dates with the office (source).

Graduate records: sealed, never notarized, and country rules

Graduate students must prove the bachelor's degree before class registration with records sent by the issuing institution in an envelope sealed and signed or stamped across the flap; you may carry it if the seal is unbroken. Faxed, scanned and notarized copies are not official, and attestations by individual professors or outside notaries are refused. Translations follow the same any-qualified-translator rule (source).

India: mark sheets from the university that ran the examinations, attested by the Controller of Examinations or Registrar and sealed; University of Mumbai records arrive through its Online Attestation service. China: records issued by the university in English and Chinese, or, if the university cannot send sealed documents, CDGDC and CHESICC verification reports issued in English. Applicants from a listed group of countries, including Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua, may bring documents for verification in person (source). Financial documents for the I-20 must be in English or include an English translation (source).

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Oregon State

Mail the translation with your records to the Office of International Admissions, 1701 SW Western Blvd., Corvallis, or have it emailed from the official address of the organization that issued it; check your offer letter for sealed-envelope instructions (source).

Graduate applicants send financial documents in English or with an English translation as part of the international graduate requirements (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Oregon State, we translate your records; the sealed official copies, and the attestations required for Indian and Chinese graduate records, come from your school.
