How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
MassBay Community College requires that educational documents from a school outside the US be evaluated by an educational evaluation agency that is a member of NACES, such as CED, WES or SpanTran, both for F-1 applicants and for residents who finished high school abroad.
MassBay's evaluation agencies, such as WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translate first, then order the evaluation; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Worth knowing about MassBay
NACES evaluation
For F-1 and for residents with a foreign diploma.
CED, WES, SpanTran
The examples MassBay gives; any NACES member.
Immunizations too
Records translated into English before enrollment.
MassBay requirements in detail
Translation
No translation rule of its own for admission; the NACES agency doing the evaluation sets it (New international students).
Evaluation (F-1)
Evidence of high school graduation, with the documents evaluated by a NACES member such as CED, WES or SpanTran (new students, transfers).
Residents and US applicants
Same rule for anyone who completed high school outside the US (degree applicants).
Transfer credit
Foreign documents must be translated and evaluated by a credible agency such as the Center for Educational Documentation (transcript evaluation).
Immunization records
A copy translated into English is required before enrollment, not before admission (New international students).
Timing
Fall 2026 final deadline August 28; transcripts for credit at least six weeks before you register (Degree and certificate applicants, Transcript evaluation).
One evaluation rule for F-1 and resident applicants
MassBay's only general admission requirement is high school graduation or its equivalent.
When high school was completed outside the US, MassBay requires the documents to be evaluated by a NACES-member agency, and it uses the same sentence on the page for new F-1 students, the page for F-1 transfers and the page for degree and certificate applicants living in the US (new F-1, F-1 transfer, degree applicants).
Health Sciences, Automotive Technology and the Direct Support Certificate add a selective admission step on top.
The other translation MassBay names directly is the immunization record: a copy translated into English is required before enrollment, though not before admission (New international students). It can be ordered with the school records.
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
The translation rule comes from the agency you choose. WES wants a complete, word-for-word translation from a professional translator, not one made by the applicant.
ECE, also a NACES member, accepts a word-for-word translation made by anyone, including you, and sells an $85 translation waiver.
SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts an outside translation only from a translator certified by the American Translators Association; eVerbary can assign one on request through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies.
For transfer credit, MassBay's advising center says foreign documents must be "translated and evaluated by a credible agency" and gives CED as the example (transcript evaluation).
Credit is evaluated only after you are accepted and have declared a major, and science and computer science courses must be from the last five years.

Documents applicants usually translate
- High school diploma or leaving certificate
- High school transcripts or national exam results
- University transcripts, for the credit evaluation
- Immunization records, before enrollment
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to MassBay
For admission the translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents, not to MassBay; the agency sends its evaluation to MassBay. Applications go through the MassBay Secure Online Application (New international students).
For transfer credit, official transcripts and evaluations reach the Registrar by mail in a sealed envelope, in person at Wellesley Hills or Framingham, or electronically from the issuer to registrar@massbay.edu (Transcript evaluation).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For MassBay that means we translate your records for the agency and translate your immunization record; the NACES evaluation is ordered by you from the agency after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does MassBay require a certified translation of my diploma?
MassBay itself asks for a NACES evaluation, not a translation (New international students). The agency asks for the translation; WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).
I live in Massachusetts and finished high school abroad. Do I need an evaluation?
Yes. MassBay requires a NACES evaluation for anyone who completed high school outside the US (Degree and certificate applicants).
Which agency should I use?
Any NACES member; MassBay gives CED, WES and SpanTran as examples (New international students). Compare their translation rules before ordering.
Do my vaccination records need a translation?
Yes, a copy translated into English is required before enrollment (New international students).
How do I get credit for college courses taken abroad?
After acceptance and declaring a major, have foreign documents translated and evaluated by a credible agency such as CED and sent to the Registrar, at least six weeks before registering (Transcript evaluation).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
