How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
Lamar University asks international undergraduate applicants for a course-by-course evaluation of all secondary and post-secondary records from a recognized US evaluation company, sent directly by the agency; Lamar does not evaluate them itself.
Lamar's evaluation agencies, such as WES and FCSA, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; you order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records.
Graduate applicants are evaluated in house and need an official translation from the school, a recognized translator or a US embassy or consulate, arriving sealed from the institution or the translator; GCE, IACEI and The Evaluation Company take outside translations only from ATA-certified translators, which eVerbary provides on request.

Lamar requirements in detail
Translation of academic records (undergraduate)
Foreign transcripts must be "translated and evaluated" through a recognized US evaluation company (Foreign transcript evaluation).
Who may translate (undergraduate)
Set by the evaluation agency you choose; see "What each evaluation agency asks for the translation" below.
Evaluation (undergraduate)
Course-by-course grades, GPA calculation, degree conferred and US equivalency, original and sent directly by the agency; secondary and post-secondary records alike (Foreign transcript evaluation, International undergraduate admission).
Agencies
WES, SDR Educational Consultants, Foreign Credentials Service of America, Global Credential Evaluators, IACEI, IERF, The Evaluation Company and IEE, or any AICE or NACES member (Foreign transcript evaluation).
Who may translate (graduate)
The school, a recognized translator, or a translation verified by a US embassy or consulate, with the native-language transcript (International graduate admission).
Graduate delivery
Sealed envelope directly from the institution or the recognized translator, or registrar email to LUAdmTran@Lamar.edu; faxed or notarized scanned copies are not accepted (International graduate admission).
Personal emails
Transcripts sent from a personal email are not accepted (Contact international admissions).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Most of Lamar's listed agencies accept a professional translation. WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and refuses applicants' own (WES).
FCSA accepts translations from most professional agencies, and for Spanish even non-certified ones (FCSA). IEE accepts a certified translator but not the client or a notary public (IEE).
IERF asks for line-by-line, word-for-word typed translations and may require professional ones (IERF). SDR accepts translations by its own staff or another certified translator (SDR).
Three are stricter.
Global Credential Evaluators takes translations only from the university, the Ministry of Education or an ATA-certified translator (GCE); IACEI requires an ATA-certified translator (IACEI); and The Evaluation Company requires an outside translator to be ATA-certified, or sells its own translation (TEC). If you choose one of these, see the ATA section below.
Undergraduates: an agency evaluates everything, including high school
Lamar's international undergraduate page says applicants must have an official course-by-course evaluation of all secondary and post-secondary work sent directly by the evaluating agency, and that Lamar does not provide an internal evaluation and does not need your official transcripts (International undergraduate admission).
Agencies can email the report to LUAdmTran@Lamar.edu or mail it to Lamar University Admissions, PO Box 10009, Beaumont.
Lamar's foreign transcript page describes the step as having official transcripts "translated and evaluated" through a recognized US evaluation company (Foreign transcript evaluation).
The agencies it lists set their own translation rules, and most of them ask you to supply the translation with your documents; check your agency's rule above before you order.
Graduate applicants: in-house evaluation and a recognized translator
Graduate applicants are treated differently: Lamar evaluates their transcripts internally (graduate admissions, contact page).
Transcripts not in English need an official translation from the school, a recognized translator, or a translation verified by a US embassy or consulate, sent with the native-language transcript, in a sealed envelope directly from the institution or the recognized translator (International graduate admission).
eVerbary can mail the translation to Lamar in a sealed, signed envelope: choose the hard copy at checkout with Lamar Admissions' address ($19.95 Priority or $37.95 Express in the US) and write in the order notes that it is for Lamar.
Your university still sends its own transcript, sealed or by registrar email.
Need a certified translation for Lamar?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and diplomas, which undergraduate evaluations also cover
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Mark sheets or grade reports showing every course and grade
- Native-language transcripts that graduate translations must accompany
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Lamar
Undergraduates send the translation to the evaluation agency with their records (WES, for example, takes uploads in your WES account: WES: translation requirements); the agency sends the evaluation to LUAdmTran@Lamar.edu or by mail (International undergraduate admission).
Graduate applicants have the native-language transcript sent by the school and the translation sent sealed by the school or the recognized translator to Lamar University Admissions, PO Box 10009, Beaumont, TX (International graduate admission).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Lamar, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Lamar that means we translate your records; the undergraduate course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from an agency after the translation, and the official transcripts come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Lamar evaluate my foreign transcripts itself?
Not for undergraduates: they need an agency evaluation of all secondary and post-secondary work (International undergraduate admission). Graduate applicants are evaluated in house (International graduate admission).
Which agencies does Lamar accept?
WES, SDR, FCSA, Global Credential Evaluators, IACEI, IERF, The Evaluation Company and IEE, or any member of AICE or NACES (Foreign transcript evaluation).
Who can translate my graduate transcripts?
The school, a recognized translator, or a translation verified by a US embassy or consulate (International graduate admission). Lamar does not define "recognized"; if you are unsure, ask gradmissions@lamar.edu (Contact international admissions) before you order.
Can I email my transcripts to Lamar?
Not from a personal email: Lamar accepts transcripts sent directly from the institution or agency (Contact international admissions).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Lamar?
Yes, on request, for example if you use Global Credential Evaluators, IACEI or The Evaluation Company. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes which agency evaluates your records for Lamar and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
