How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
SUNY Jamestown Community College asks applicants with a diploma from a country where English is not the main language for a certified English-translated transcript together with the original official document, and says students may use any NACES member agency to translate or evaluate.
SUNY Jamestown Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
A certified evaluation is needed only when JCC cannot determine equivalency, and a course-by-course evaluation for college credit; those we do not provide.
JCC at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
JCC's international application asks for a certified English-translated transcript plus the original (international application); NACES agencies are offered as an option ("may use"), not as the only translators, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. JCC requirements in detail
Translation
Diploma from a non-English-speaking country: certified English-translated transcript plus the original official document (International student application).
Who may translate
Not restricted; JCC says students may use any NACES member agency to translate or evaluate (International student application).
Evaluation
A certified evaluated transcript only if your credential cannot be determined as equivalent to a US high school diploma (International student application).
College credit
Original document, certified translation, certified course-by-course evaluation and course descriptions in English (International student application).
Where to send
All documents at one time to International@sunyjcc.edu, each file clearly named (International student application).
Deadlines
July 1 for fall, December 1 for spring; I-20s typically within 10 business days of a complete file; no deferrals (International student application).
JCC's table: translation, evaluation, or both
JCC sorts applicants by the credential they hold (International student application).
With a high school diploma from a country where English is not the primary language, you send a certified English-translated transcript and the original official document.
If JCC cannot determine that your transcript, diploma or certificate equals a US high school diploma, it asks for a certified evaluated transcript instead.
For college credits from abroad you send four things: the original, a certified translation, a certified course-by-course evaluation, and course descriptions in English.
Course descriptions are often the longest part. If your syllabus or catalog pages are not in English, they need translating too; send them with the transcript so we can quote them together.
One email, labeled files
JCC's Global Learning team asks you to send all required documents at once, not one by one, and to name each file clearly; separate emails and unlabeled files slow the review, which does not start until the file is complete (International student application).
Name the translation after the document it translates, for example "Transcript - certified translation", and put it right after the original high school diploma or transcript.
Deadlines are July 1 for fall and December 1 for spring, and JCC no longer defers applications: a later start means a new application (International student application).

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to JCC
Email everything together to International@sunyjcc.edu: passport, secondary documents with their certified translations, the financial statement with proof of funding, and English results (International student application).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For JCC that means we translate your records and course descriptions; a certified evaluation, if JCC needs one, comes from a NACES member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does JCC require a certified translation of my transcript?
Yes, if your diploma is from a country where English is not the primary language: a certified English-translated transcript plus the original (International student application).
Does the translation have to come from a NACES agency?
No. JCC says students may use a NACES agency to translate or evaluate (International student application); it is an option, and a certified translation from a professional service meets the rule.
When do I need an evaluation for JCC?
When JCC cannot determine your credential's US equivalency, and for college credits, which need a course-by-course evaluation (International student application).
How should I send my documents?
All at once, by email to International@sunyjcc.edu, with each file clearly named (International student application).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
