East-West University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Transfer applicants also need a course-by-course evaluation from ECE or WES, which we do not provide.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

East-West requirements in detail

Translation

Official transcripts must be in English (International admissions); the catalog asks for the original and an English translation, secondary through college (catalog).

Who may translate

Not stated for transcripts (catalog).

Bank letter

In English, or translated to English by a notarized translator, with balances stated in or translated into dollars (International admissions).

Transfer evaluation

Course by course from ECE or WES to complete the application; a Catalog Match Evaluation on enrolling, for credit (International admissions).

Credit from abroad

Foreign university transcripts evaluated by an acceptable US-based agency such as ECE (International admissions), at the student's expense (transfer catalog).

Fee and funds

$300 application processing fee; at least $45,000 shown in bank letters (International admissions).

Calendar

Fall, Winter and Spring quarters, rolling admission (International admissions).

Original and translation, from secondary school up

East-West's catalog asks every international applicant for the original and an English translation of official transcripts from secondary school through college level (catalog), and its admissions page repeats that transcripts must be in English (International admissions).

Translate the high school record even if you also have college credit, unless you are a transfer with 20 or more transferable credit hours, who do not need to send high school transcripts (International admissions).

Transfers: two evaluations

International transfer applicants request a course-by-course evaluation from ECE or WES to complete the application, and students who enroll then submit a Catalog Match Evaluation to receive credit for courses taken abroad (International admissions).

Both agencies need the English translation first; WES accepts one from a professional translator, and ECE accepts any complete, word-for-word translation. See translation for credential evaluation.

Financial documents and a notarized translator

For proof of funds, the bank letter must be in English or translated by a notarized translator, and balances must be stated in or converted to dollars (International admissions).

When parents sponsor, they provide a notarized declaration, a bank letter in English and the student's birth certificate. eVerbary adds notarization for $34.90 per order.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and diploma
  • College or university transcripts, for ECE or WES
  • Bank letter, if not in English
  • Birth certificate, when parents sponsor

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to East-West

  • After you apply online, East-West contacts you to review next steps and gather documents; the office of International Student Services handles questions (International admissions).

  • The ECE or WES report is sent by the agency; send the agency your records with the translation (International admissions).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For East-West that means we translate your transcripts and bank letter; the ECE or WES course-by-course report and the Catalog Match Evaluation come from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does East-West require a translation of my transcripts?

Yes. Transcripts must be in English, and the catalog asks for the original and an English translation (catalog). It does not say who translates.

Do transfer students need an evaluation?

Yes, a course-by-course evaluation from ECE or WES, and a Catalog Match Evaluation after enrolling (International admissions).

How must the bank letter be translated?

By a notarized translator, with balances in dollars (International admissions).

Is the TOEFL required?

Not for regular admission (score 65 if available), but transfer applicants show English proficiency, such as TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5 (International admissions).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
