Dartmouth College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Dartmouth's admissions office says documents must be written in or translated into English, that the translator must sign and date the translation, and it points applicants to EducationUSA to find translation services; its graduate school, Guarini, asks international applicants to have academic records translated and sent with the originals, and Tuck asks for a certified English translation. Dartmouth College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. No credential evaluation is required for undergraduate admission, and a WES report is optional at Guarini; what we do not do is send your records for your school or collect them for Dartmouth's verification company.

Dartmouth College: requirements for documents in another language
What Dartmouth asks for
TranslationDocuments must be in English or translated into English (admissions FAQ). Guarini: academic records translated and sent along with the originals (Guarini). Tuck: a certified English translation (Tuck).
Who may translateNot limited. The translator must sign and date the translation, and Dartmouth suggests EducationUSA for finding affordable translation services (Admissions FAQ: recommendations in other languages).
EvaluationUndergraduate: none; admissions officers read your record within your school's own grading system (Admissions FAQ: different curriculum or grading system). Guarini: a WES evaluation is optional and can replace official transcripts if WES sends it with the transcripts it evaluated (Guarini School: admissions information).
Where it goesUndergraduate: the Common App, with the School Report and transcript sent by your school; transfer applicants use Dartmouth's own Transfer Application (Apply to Dartmouth: dates, deadlines and forms). Graduate: uploaded to the online application (Guarini).
Copies or originalsGuarini takes a scanned transcript to apply and one official hard copy from each degree-granting school if you are admitted, collected by a verification company it works with (Guarini School: admissions information, FAQ).
DeadlinesEarly Decision November 1; Regular Decision January 1 or 2 (see below); transfer March 1 (Apply to Dartmouth: dates, deadlines and forms).
Records outside a US-style transcriptGuarini wants all available records (courses, grades, degrees, rank in class), certified by university officials (Guarini School: admissions information).
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. Dartmouth's admissions FAQ accepts a translation signed and dated by the translator and refers applicants to translation services (international FAQ); Guarini asks for academic records translated without limiting who translates (Guarini), and Tuck asks for a certified English translation (Tuck FAQ). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, signed and dated, meets each of them. Policy checked on October 13, 2026.

Undergraduate: the translator signs, and Dartmouth checks

Dartmouth's undergraduate pages do not have a separate transcript translation rule. Its international FAQ, answering a question about recommendation letters, states the rule that applies: the document must be written in or translated into English, the translator must sign and date it, and Dartmouth verifies translations after they are submitted (Admissions FAQ: recommendations in other languages). The same answer suggests EducationUSA as a starting point for finding affordable translation services, which tells you the translator is expected to be someone other than you.

A signed, dated translation that Dartmouth can verify is what a certified translation is: ours carries a signed certificate of accuracy with the date and our contact details. Your school still sends the School Report and transcript through the Common App; Dartmouth reads them in the context of your national curriculum and grading system rather than through an evaluation (Admissions FAQ: different curriculum or grading system). If your secondary school lasts three years, Dartmouth asks you to add your last year of middle school if you can (Admissions FAQ: three-year high school systems), so that report may need a translation too.

Graduate study: Guarini, its verification company, and Tuck

Guarini asks international applicants to have their academic records translated and sent along with the originals; where a US-style transcript is not used, you include all available records, certified by university officials (Guarini School: admissions information). You apply with a scanned or unofficial transcript, uploading both sides. After admission, a company that specializes in educational verifications contacts you to collect official transcripts and degrees (FAQ). A WES evaluation is not mandatory, but it can speed up review, and it can stand in for official transcripts if WES sends it directly together with the transcripts it evaluated.

Tuck runs its own MBA admissions and is more specific: if a transcript is not in English, upload the original and a certified English translation (Tuck School of Business: admissions FAQs). Tuck does not convert GPAs and asks you not to either; report the grade on your school's scale (Tuck admissions insights: education information). For recommendation letters, Tuck says a reference who cannot write in English writes in their own language and has the letter translated by an outside translation service, and both Tuck and Guarini treat translating your own letter as a violation of the Academic Honor Principle (Guarini FAQ).

Where Dartmouth's pages differ

The Apply to Dartmouth page gives the Regular Decision deadline as January 2 in one paragraph and January 1 elsewhere on the same page, including in its dated calendar. We have not resolved that for you; plan your translation so it reaches your counselor before January 1, and check with Dartmouth admissions if the date matters.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Dartmouth

Undergraduate: give the translation to your counselor so it goes with the School Report and transcript through the Common App; transfer applicants use Dartmouth's Transfer Application, which opens in January (Apply to Dartmouth: dates, deadlines and forms).

Graduate: upload the original and the translation together in the Guarini or Tuck online application; after admission, official documents go through Guarini's verification partner (Guarini, Tuck).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Dartmouth that means we translate your records and letters; your school sends the transcript, and the official copies for Guarini are collected by its verification company.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for Dartmouth?

Dartmouth asks that the translator sign and date the translation and suggests EducationUSA for finding translation services (Admissions FAQ: recommendations in other languages). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is signed and dated.

Do I need a WES evaluation for a Dartmouth graduate program?

No. Guarini says a WES evaluation is not mandatory but can speed up review, and can replace official transcripts if WES sends it with the transcripts it evaluated (Guarini School: admissions information).

What does Tuck want for a transcript in another language?

The original transcript and a certified English translation, both uploaded with the application (Tuck School of Business: admissions FAQs).

Can I translate my recommender's letter myself?

No. Guarini and Tuck say translating your own recommendation letter violates the Academic Honor Principle; Tuck asks for an outside translation service (Guarini, Tuck).

My high school lasts three years. What do I send?

Your high school report and, if possible, the grades from your last year of middle school (Admissions FAQ: three-year high school systems). Both need a translation if they are not in English.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
