How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

CSU Bakersfield publishes no translation rule of its own: transcripts from colleges or universities outside the US must be evaluated course by course by a NACES-approved organization, such as The Evaluation Company or WES, for undergraduate transfer and graduate applicants, and high school transcripts must be in English.

CSUB's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

CSUB asks for a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-approved organization (CSUB international admission), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES rule); The Evaluation Company, the other agency CSUB names, asks for a translator certified by ATA (TEC). Worth knowing about CSUB

Course by course

For every college record from outside the US.

TEC or WES

In English

CSUB requirements in detail

Translation

CSUB states no translation rule; college records from abroad reach it through a NACES evaluation (CSUB: international students, how to apply). The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency: WES and ECE accept a professional service; TEC asks for an ATA-certified translator.

Evaluation

Course-by-course analysis by a NACES-approved organization, such as The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) or WES, for transcripts from colleges outside the US, at the undergraduate transfer and graduate levels (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

High school records

Official transcripts must be in English and show proof of graduation; transfers with fewer than 60 units also send them (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

Bank statements

In English, showing at least $38,956 in liquid funds, dated within six months (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

Official delivery

Electronically (Parchment, Clearinghouse and others), by email from the institution to incomingtranscripts@csub.edu, or by mail; opened transcripts or those from a student's email are unofficial (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

CSUB names two NACES agencies as examples and accepts other NACES members.

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency or another professional service; it does not accept translations by applicants and does not translate documents itself.

ECE, also a NACES member, asks for complete, literal, word-for-word translations, lets applicants translate themselves and sells an $85 Translation Waiver under which it translates internally for the report.

The Evaluation Company, formerly SpanTran, is stricter: an outside translator must be certified by the American Translators Association, or TEC translates after your application is complete.

If you choose TEC, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA for the languages ATA certifies: ask for a free quote and say it is for TEC.

High school records and bank statements must be in English

For first-time freshmen, and for transfers with fewer than 60 college units, CSUB asks for official high school transcripts that "must be in English" and show proof of graduation, with a minimum 2.5 GPA (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

The page does not say whether a translation may accompany the original or who makes it, and it does not ask for an evaluation of high school records.

If your high school records are not in English, ask the International Students and Programs office how to submit them before you order the translation.

Bank statements are also required in English (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

Need a certified translation for CSUB?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University transcripts and degree certificates, for the course-by-course evaluation
  • High school transcripts and diploma
  • Bank statements

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to CSUB

  • For college records from abroad, the translation goes to the NACES agency with your documents, and you ask the agency to send the evaluation to CSUB.

Other documents go through the CSUB document upload, and official transcripts electronically, by institutional email to incomingtranscripts@csub.edu, or by mail to the Office of Admissions (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for CSUB, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For CSUB that means we translate your records for the agency; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES member after the translation.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does CSU Bakersfield require a certified translation of my university transcript?

CSUB publishes no translation rule. It requires a NACES course-by-course evaluation (CSUB: international students, how to apply), and the agency sets the translation rule: WES wants a professional translator (WES).

Which evaluation agency should I use for CSUB?

Any NACES-approved organization; CSUB names The Evaluation Company and WES as examples (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for CSUB?

Yes, for The Evaluation Company: request a free quote. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English, and no other languages.

Do graduate applicants need an evaluation?

Yes, if they studied at a college or university outside the US: the same NACES course-by-course rule applies (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

Can I email my own transcripts?

No. Transcripts opened or sent from a student's personal email are unofficial (CSUB: international students, how to apply).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
