How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Butte College asks F-1 applicants for no school records unless they are under 18, and states no translation rule for academic records; coursework from outside the US must first be evaluated by a NACES member, with a US course-to-course breakdown, before Admissions & Records reviews it.
Butte College's evaluation agencies, such as IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

Butte College requirements in detail
Translation
No rule for academic records; a BCG vaccination record does not need to be translated (International students: application steps). For coursework abroad, the translation is for the evaluation agency.
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency. IERF accepts a professional translation; TEC asks for an ATA-certified translator.
Admission records
Under 18 only: an unofficial high school transcript or completion certification, with the Under 18 Authorization Form (International students: application steps).
Evaluation
From a NACES member, with a US course-to-course breakdown showing upper or lower division; TEC, ERES and IERF are suggested (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
When
Only enrolled students can have transcripts evaluated; the result may affect GPA and financial aid progress (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
Where it goes
F-1 documents by email to international@butte.edu; evaluations from the agency to Admissions & Records, never by fax (application steps, transcripts).
Deadlines (F-1)
Needing a visa: June 15 for fall, November 1 for spring. Already in F-1 status: July 15 and December 1 (International students: application steps).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Butte College accepts any NACES member and names three options (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, does not require them to be certified, notarized or sworn, and reserves the right to ask for a professional translation.
TEC, which offers Butte students a discounted rate and sends Butte a free copy, accepts outside translations only from translators certified by ATA, or translates in-house; eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request. ERES sets its own rules.
Other NACES members also qualify; WES, for example, wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants.
Admission first, credit later
Butte's F-1 file is light: the application, English proficiency, the Financial Guarantee Form with a bank statement from the last three months, a health statement, and a passport copy, all sent by email to the International Student Program.
Only applicants who will be under 18 send an unofficial high school transcript or completion certificate (International students: application steps); a translation of the high school diploma or certificate helps the office read it.
Credit for college work abroad comes after you enroll.
The evaluation must break your record down course by course with the US division level, Butte accepts it only from approved services, and it can change your GPA and financial aid standing, so meet a counselor before you order it (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
Need a certified translation for Butte College?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

- University transcripts and course lists, for the evaluation
- Degree certificates
- High school transcript or completion certificate, for applicants under 18
- Bank statement, if the office asks about it
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Butte College
For admission, email each document to international@butte.edu; the office reviews them in 2–5 business days and tells you what is missing (International students: application steps).
For credit, the translation goes to the NACES agency with your records; the agency sends the evaluation to Butte Admissions & Records, electronically to evaluations@butte.edu or by mail (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Butte College, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Butte College that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES course-to-course evaluation is ordered by you after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to translate my high school records for Butte College?
Only applicants under 18 send a high school transcript or completion certificate, and it can be unofficial (International students: application steps). Butte states no translation rule for it.
Which evaluation agencies does Butte accept?
Any NACES member; Butte names TEC, ERES and IERF (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
Can I use an eVerbary translation with IERF?
Yes. IERF accepts translations from professional services and does not require certified or notarized ones (IERF).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?
Yes, on request through a free quote, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page). ATA certifies no other languages into English (TEC rule).
When can I have my foreign transcripts evaluated?
Only once you are enrolled at Butte (Transcripts, prerequisites and international evaluation).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
