How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Barstow Community College publishes no translation rule of its own: F-1 applicants from abroad email six documents, among them their high school and college transcripts evaluated by an accredited member of NACES.

Barstow's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Barstow requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; the translation is what the NACES agency needs before it can evaluate a record not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency. WES, ECE and IERF accept a professional translation.

Evaluation

High school and college transcripts, evaluated by an accredited NACES member, for admission (International students).

Where it goes

All documents as email attachments to admissions@barstow.edu (International students).

Application windows

Fall: February 1 to June 1 from your home country, to July 15 if transferring from a US school. Spring: September 1 to October 15, or to November 15 for transfers (International students).

English

TOEFL 46 iBT or IELTS 4.5, sent by the testing agency; native English speakers are exempt (International students).

Other documents

Supplemental application, proof of funds for one year, passport ID page (International students).

An evaluation before admission, not after

At many California community colleges the evaluation only matters for credit, after you enroll.

Barstow puts it in the admission file itself: the list of six documents for applicants from outside the US includes "High School/College Transcripts (evaluated by an accredited member of NACES)", next to the supplemental application, English scores, a financial statement for one full year and the passport page. The I-20 is issued once all six are in (International students).

So the order is: translate your secondary school and any college records, send them with the originals to a NACES agency, and email the agency's report to Barstow before your window closes.

A general, document-by-document report is usually enough to show the equivalent of a US high school diploma; ask for course by course if you also want college credit. For the school record, see high school diploma translation.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, does not accept translations by applicants and does not translate itself.

ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, including your own, or sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally for the report.

IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and may require a professional one. Other NACES members set their own rules; check before you order.

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Barstow

  • The translation goes to the NACES agency with your records. Email the agency's evaluation, with your other documents, to admissions@barstow.edu within the application window (International students).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Barstow that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES evaluation is ordered by you after the translation.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Barstow Community College require a credential evaluation?

Yes. F-1 applicants send high school and college transcripts evaluated by an accredited NACES member (International students).

Does Barstow require a certified translation?

Barstow itself states no translation rule; the NACES agency does. WES, for example, requires a professional translator (WES).

Can I use an eVerbary translation?

Yes, with WES, ECE or IERF, which accept translations from professional services (WES, ECE, IERF).

When can I apply for fall?

From February 1 to June 1 from your home country, or to July 15 if transferring from a US institution (International students).

How do I send my documents?

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
