How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

The Oregon Medical Board requires, for any document in a foreign language, a copy of the original and an official, word-for-word English translation on letterhead, made by an employee of a professional translating company, a member of the American Translators Association, or a US university language faculty member.

OMB accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Verifications from schools, training programs and licensing boards still come to OMB by mail from the source, and international graduates need ECFMG certification, which we do not provide.

Oregon Medical Board at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

OMB lists "an employee of a professional translating company" among acceptable translators (application requirements), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Oregon Medical Board requirements in detail

Translation

Any document in a foreign language: a copy of the original plus an official, word-for-word translation (Application requirements and instructions).

Who may translate

An employee of a professional translating company, an ATA member, or a faculty member of a US college's modern languages or linguistics department (Application requirements and instructions).

Format

On official letterhead, bearing the translator's certification seal, attached to the copy of the document; everything on the original, including preprinted letterhead and titles, appears in the translation each time it appears (Application requirements and instructions).

Original or copy

Copies only, legible, no notarization; nothing is returned, translations included (Application requirements and instructions).

How to submit

Most items you send yourself go through OMB's Secure Upload Portal (Application requirements and instructions).

Primary-source items

Education, training, employment and license verifications are mailed by the source in its own envelope; fax and email are refused (Application requirements and instructions).

International graduates

ECFMG certification; one year of US or Canadian training for graduates of schools in England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, three years for other international schools (Eligibility requirements for licensure).

What OMB means by word-for-word

OMB is unusually specific: everything on the document must be in the translation every time it appears on the original, including the university's preprinted letterhead and titles (Application requirements and instructions).

A translation that summarizes a stamp or skips a repeated header falls short. We translate stamps, seals, letterheads and handwritten notes, and lay the translation out like the original.

The translation is attached to a copy of the document it translates, not to the original, which OMB does not want and does not return (Application requirements and instructions).

Birth certificate, name and the documents only you send

OMB requires a copy of an official birth certificate or birth record; a passport or driver's license is not accepted in its place, and a hospital birth certificate is not acceptable (Application requirements and instructions).

Your license will show your full legal name as it appears there, so marriage certificates, divorce decrees or court orders are needed for any other name you have used.

FCVS is optional in Oregon and may cover the birth certificate, diploma, transcripts and training verification if they are in the profile, but it does not include everything OMB requires (Application requirements and instructions).

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to Oregon Medical Board

  • Upload the translation, attached to a copy of the original document, through OMB's Secure Upload Portal; questions go to licensing@omb.oregon.gov (Application requirements and instructions).

  • Items that must come from a primary source, such as the Verification of Medical Education form or license verifications from other countries, are mailed to OMB by that school or board in its own envelope (Application requirements and instructions).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.

For OMB that means we translate the documents you send; school, training and license verifications are mailed by their source, and ECFMG certification is separate.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
