No spaces, and a script that stacks

Lao is written without spaces between words and with vowels that sit above, below, before and after the consonant they belong to. A reader has to know the language to segment a line, and an automated split produces words that do not exist.

Lao spelling was simplified after 1975, so a document from the Royal Lao period spells words — and names — differently from one issued since. Both are correct for their date. We reproduce the document as written and note where an older spelling underlies a modern one.

Refugee-era documents, and the Buddhist calendar

Many Lao files in the United States rest on refugee camp documents from Thailand — Ban Vinai, Nong Khai — or on US resettlement paperwork rather than Lao civil records, because the originals were left behind or never existed.

We translate what the file actually holds and name the issuing body, rather than presenting a camp registration as a civil certificate. Lao dates commonly use the Buddhist era, 543 years ahead of the Gregorian year, so a document dated 2568 is from 2025.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

My document is from a refugee camp, not the government.

Common. We translate it and name the issuing body for what it is rather than dressing it up as a civil record.

The date says 2568.

Buddhist era. Subtract 543 for the Gregorian year.

My old document spells my name differently.

Lao spelling was simplified after 1975. Both spellings are correct for their period and we note the relationship.
