A civil-law will is a different instrument
Most of the world makes wills before a notary, who drafts the instrument, keeps the original in a protocol and issues certified copies — and many countries maintain a central register of wills that must be searched before an estate can proceed. That search certificate is itself a document, and US practitioners frequently do not know to ask for it.
Civil-law systems also impose forced heirship: a fixed share (legítima, Pflichtteil, réserve héréditaire) reserved to certain heirs regardless of what the will says. We translate the terms as written rather than converting them into US concepts that carry no such rule.
What an estate file usually contains
