The court-appointed expert, and the party witness
Thai courts may appoint an expert of their own motion or on application, and the parties may also call expert witnesses, so a Thai file may hold a court expert's report, party expert testimony, or both.
Thai civil procedure is inquisitorial in flavour with the judge active in examining witnesses, so the record may show the judge putting questions directly. We translate the record as it stands.
The Central Institute of Forensic Science
Thailand has two principal forensic providers: the police forensic science office and the Central Institute of Forensic Science under the justice ministry, created to provide an alternative to police forensics.
Which one produced a report is therefore a fact about the case, and we name the institution and the division rather than describing the author as a state examiner.

Thai court documents are dated in the Buddhist Era, 543 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar, and the case number is structured with a year in that calendar.
A reader who does not convert reads every date and case reference as five centuries out. We convert each and show both.

Thai expert work in US files is most commonly medical, traffic accident reconstruction and document examination, each with its own vocabulary.
