Osvedčenie časť I and časť II
Slovakia issues the osvedčenie o evidencii časť I, the card carried in the vehicle, and časť II, the document held by the owner recording the registration history.
Both are needed for a transfer, and a missing časť II is a real obstacle rather than a formality. We name which documents the file holds.
The plate now stays with the vehicle
Slovakia changed the rule in 2023: a plate now stays with the vehicle on a sale rather than being surrendered and reissued, so a transfer no longer means new plates.
Documents from before and after that change read differently and both are correct. We translate as issued.
The transfer, and the online step
A transfer is filed at the traffic inspectorate, and Slovakia has moved much of it online with an electronic ID, so a recent file may hold an electronic confirmation rather than a stamped form.
That is the current form. We transcribe the reference rather than treating the absence of a stamp as a defect.
The technical and emissions inspection
Slovak vehicles carry a technická kontrola and an emisná kontrola with their own certificates and stickers, both required for a valid transfer.
Owners are identified by birth number or IČO, and a woman's surname takes the -ová ending. See our Slovak page.

Why do spouses have different surnames?
