The document with a dozen names
A single status certificate states that a person is not currently married. Every country issues its own version and calls it something different: certificado de soltería or fe de soltería in Spanish-speaking countries, nulla osta al matrimonio in Italy, Ledigkeitsbescheinigung in Germany, a certificate of no impediment in much of the Commonwealth. In some places the equivalent is a negative search certificate: a statement that no marriage record was found.
We translate the document you were issued, under the name it actually carries, without recasting it as the American equivalent it is not.
The issue date is the first thing anyone checks
Most of these certificates are only accepted within a short window of being issued — often three or six months — so the issue date matters as much as the statement itself. It is reproduced exactly, and written in a form a US reader cannot misread: 03/04/2026 means two different days on either side of the Atlantic.
If the certificate arrived with an apostille or a consular legalization attached, those pages are part of what you are filing and are translated with it.
Where it is used
These certificates come up when someone marries abroad, when a foreign registry office asks for proof before recording a marriage, and in fiancé(e) and spousal immigration files. Whether you need one, and how recent it must be, is set by the office receiving it, not by the country that issued it.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.
A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at $0.10 per word.
Frequently asked questions
My document says no marriage record was found rather than that I am single.
Then that is what the translation will say. We render the statement as issued; reinterpreting it would misrepresent the document.
How long is my certificate valid?
That is set by the office receiving it, and varies. The issue date is translated exactly so there is no ambiguity about when the clock started.
Does the apostille need translating too?
If you are submitting it, yes. It is a page of the same packet and is translated with the certificate.
