Reconocimiento, and the Family Code
Salvadoran acknowledgment is made in the birth registration, before the municipal Registro del Estado Familiar later, by public instrument, or in a will, under the Código de Familia.
It is recorded against the birth entry and a certificate issued afterwards shows the father. The registry is a municipal one, so the certificate comes from a town hall rather than a national agency.

The Procuraduría General de la República assists in family matters including establishing paternity and maintenance, and its involvement produces documents that appear in the file.

Judicial declaration, and biological evidence
Where a father does not acknowledge, a judicial declaration is available and the Family Code provides for biological evidence, with courts able to draw inferences from refusal.
