Transaction statement and balance certificate
Korean banks issue a 거래내역서 — a transaction statement — and a separate 잔액증명서, a balance certificate stating the balance at a date and sealed by the branch.
Formal applications generally require the balance certificate, and the transaction statement supports it. They are different documents and we name which you sent.
The real-name system, and who the account belongs to
Korea operates a financial real-name system: accounts must be in the holder's verified legal name and matched to their resident registration number, so a Korean statement is unusually reliable evidence of whose money it is.
The resident registration number or, for foreigners, the alien registration number appears on formal bank documents and is the identifier matching the account to the person. We reproduce it as labelled.
Won amounts, and the scale
Korean won figures are large — a modest monthly salary runs to seven digits — and Korean documents sometimes group by 만 (ten thousand) and 억 (a hundred million) rather than by thousand.
A reader misreading the grouping is off by orders of magnitude. We give the figure in Western notation with the currency named, and note the Korean unit where the document uses it.
The seal, and the romanised name
Korean bank documents are sealed by the issuing branch, and the seal with the branch name is what makes the document the bank's act. We describe it and translate its text.
