The commune, the Archives, and French
A Haitian marriage is recorded by the officier d'état civil of the commune and the record is deposited with the Archives Nationales. A recent marriage yields an acte de mariage from the commune; an older one usually yields an extrait des archives. Both are ordinary and we translate either.

Foreign authorities generally want the Archives Nationales extract. The commune act is what most people hold. Ask the office, because ordering the wrong one costs more than asking.
My documents are in French but I speak Creole.
