The state language competence examination
Georgia examines state language competence for naturalisation and for defined public purposes, alongside university certification of Georgian as a foreign language.
So a Georgian language certificate may be a legal precondition rather than an academic credential, and the certificate states which. We name the examining body and the purpose.
The programme for ethnic minorities
Georgia runs Georgian language programmes for its Armenian and Azerbaijani speaking citizens, concentrated in Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli, with a preparatory year giving access to higher education.
So a Georgian language certificate held by a Georgian citizen may attest a second language learned for university access. We do not infer a first language from nationality.
Mkhedruli, and the three alphabets
Georgian is written in Mkhedruli, and the Georgian writing system — three historical alphabets, of which Mkhedruli is the living one — is on the UNESCO intangible heritage list.
Mkhedruli has no upper and lower case, so a name that looks uncapitalised on a certificate is not informal. We do not invent capitalisation.
The personal number, and the related languages
Certificates identify the candidate by eleven-digit personal number, which does not change.
Mingrelian, Svan and Laz are related to Georgian and not mutually intelligible with it, and a certificate in one is a different credential. See our Georgian page.
Ordering, and what the certification covers
Upload the document, choose certified translation at $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, and it comes back typically within 24 hours as a PDF formatted to mirror the original, with a signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead. Marginal annotations are translated in place, in the margin, and every seal, stamp and registry endorsement is translated with the text. See how we translate and certified versus standard.
