Business licence and company documents

Eritrean businesses are registered and licensed by the ministry responsible for trade and industry, long known as the Ministry of Trade and Industry, under the Business Licensing Office Establishment Proclamation (No. 72/1995). For a company, signed and stamped copies of the memorandum and articles of association go to the ministry's licensing department, and the business licence it issues is the company's proof of registration.

Share companies and private limited companies are governed by the Transitional Commercial Code. A US bank, investor or USCIS (in an L-1 or E-2 case, for example) usually wants the business licence and the memorandum and articles; each is translated in full, with capital, shareholders, managers and signatures.

Names, figures and languages

Company documents may be in Tigrinya, English or Arabic. Founders' names follow the Eritrean pattern of given name, father's name and grandfather's name; we keep that order and follow passport spellings you give us. See our Tigrinya and Arabic pages.

Share capital is in nakfa and stays in nakfa. See also our business immigration page and the Eritrean bank statement page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.

A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.

Frequently asked questions

Is the business licence the same as a certificate of incorporation?

For an Eritrean company it is the document that shows registration. We translate it with its title exactly as printed.

Do you translate the memorandum of association too?

Yes, in full, including signatures and stamps.

Do the documents need legalising?

USCIS does not require it. If another office does, ask it what it wants; Eritrea authenticates documents through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ready to get started?

Upload your documents and receive your certified translation, typically within 24 hours.
