Letting requires a licence
Private letting in Cuba became lawful under reforms from 2011, and a person renting out a room or a home must hold a licence and pay a monthly tax, with the arrangement declared to the authorities.
So a Cuban letting file contains a licence and tax documentation as well as a contract, and the licence is what makes the letting lawful. We name it.
The arrendamiento contract, and the housing registry
The contract is registered with the housing authority, and Cuba maintains a register of properties and their occupants which is the operative record of who lives where.

Pesos, and the currency changes
Rent is stated in Cuban pesos, and Cuba unified the peso and the CUC on 1 January 2021 with a large devaluation, so figures before and after are not comparable.

The carné, and legalisation
Parties are identified by carné de identidad number, eleven digits built from the date of birth plus a serial, which encodes the birth date on its face.
