Peritos from the Corte de Apelaciones lists
Chilean court experts are drawn from lists approved every two years by each Corte de Apelaciones, organised by specialty, and appointed by the court hearing the case. The appointment resolution names the expert and the matters to be reported on.
In the criminal system, by contrast, each party presents its own experts who testify at trial and are cross-examined, which is much closer to US practice. So Chilean expert evidence looks quite different depending on which court the document comes from, and we name it.
The informe pericial, and the notification
The informe pericial sets out the appointment, the acceptance and oath, the examination carried out, the methodology and the conclusions. The parties are notified and may object.
The acceptance and oath are separate procedural acts recorded in the file, and we translate them with the report because they are what establishes the expert acted properly.
SML, and the forensic service
A large share of Chilean forensic reports come from the Servicio Médico Legal, the state forensic medical service, rather than from an independently appointed expert. SML reports carry their own formatting, case numbering and institutional signatures.

Impairment, and the pension system
Incapacity for pension purposes is assessed by the medical commissions of the pensions regulator against defined standards, producing a determination that is administrative rather than judicial.
