The 2014 Family Code changed the vocabulary
Bolivia replaced its Family Code with the Código de las Familias y del Proceso Familiar in 2014, which reorganised marriage, separation and divorce and introduced desvinculación conyugal — a unilateral route to ending the marriage.
So documents from before and after rest on different law and use different terminology, and an older instrument citing the previous code is not defective. We reproduce the code and article as cited.
Separación, and the property consequence
Bolivian law provides for separation of the spouses, which suspends cohabitation while the marriage continues and dissolves the comunidad de gananciales.
So a couple may be separated with property divided and still married, and a US reader who reads the property division as a divorce has it wrong. We name what the instrument decided.
SERECÍ records it
The dissolution is recorded by SERECÍ, the civil registry service under the electoral authority, against the marriage entry, and a certificate issued afterwards carries the annotation.
A foreign reader expecting a ministry finds an electoral body. It is the correct issuer and we name it.
The cédula suffix, and the languages
The cédula de identidad number frequently carries a departmental suffix — LP, CB, SC — which is part of the identifier and not an abbreviation to be dropped.
