A ten-point scale where 4 is a pass
Belarus has graded on a ten-point scale since 2002, at school and at university. At university 10 is the top mark and 4 is the lowest pass; a 5 is not a failure. Some subjects are marked only pass (zachteno) or fail, with no number.
Documents from before the switch use the Soviet five-point scale, where 3 is the lowest pass, so a family file can hold both. We reproduce every mark and translate the scale's wording; we do not convert marks into a GPA. See our credential evaluation page.
The diploma supplement and the academic certificate
For a graduate, the transcript is the supplement to the diploma (prilozhenie k diplomu), listing subjects, hours, marks and coursework. Someone who left before finishing gets an academic certificate (akademicheskaya spravka) instead.
Both are usually in Russian, some in Belarusian. Evaluators such as WES work from the supplement, so we translate it whole — see our Belarusian university diploma page, our Belarusian page and our Russian page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
My marks are 5s and 6s. Is that bad?
No. On the Belarusian ten-point scale 4 is the lowest university pass. We translate the scale so the reader sees that.
Some subjects have no mark, just zachteno.
That is a pass/fail credit. We translate it as a pass.
I did not finish my degree.
The academic certificate (akademicheskaya spravka) lists what you completed. We translate it like a transcript.
Is acceptance by universities, colleges and schools guaranteed?
Yes. Our certified translations are guaranteed to be accepted by universities, colleges and schools in the United States — and by USCIS, the NVC, courts, government agencies and employers — or your money back. The guarantee covers the translation itself, not the original document or the admission decision, and it covers credential evaluation agencies such as WES and ECE as well. Full terms are in our refund policy.
