From groups to a functionality assessment
Armenia used the Soviet-inherited system of disability groups I, II and III with I the most severe, and has been reforming toward a functionality assessment model based on the international classification of functioning.
So an older Armenian certificate states a group and a newer one may state a functionality assessment instead. Both are valid and we name the basis the document states.
The medico-social expertise agency
Assessment is carried out by a state agency and the decision states the finding, the cause and a validity period, with an individual rehabilitation programme listing the aids and services the person is entitled to.
The rehabilitation programme is the detailed document and frequently the more useful one for a US reader assessing needs. We translate it in full.

Armenian certificates state a cause, and conflict-related disability has its own status and entitlements, with a distinct framework for those disabled in military service.
A military disability document is not the general civil certificate and translating it as one misstates the basis. We name the framework.
The social security number, and the alphabet
Armenian documents carry the social security number used across state systems, which identifies the person and does not change.
Armenian has its own alphabet and no single accepted romanisation; surnames ending -յան appear as -yan or -ian. One family name. See our Armenian page.
