The Evaluation Company (TEC), formerly SpanTran, asks for certified English translations of all pertinent academic documents with the application, and says that if you use an outside translator, the translator must be certified by the American Translators Association (ATA).

The Evaluation Company accepts a translator individually certified by ATA, and eVerbary assigns one on request.

TEC also sells its own translations, which can only start after your evaluation application is complete; eVerbary translates your documents and does not order the evaluation.

The Evaluation Company at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

The Evaluation Company says an outside translator must be certified by the American Translators Association (TEC guidance), so a translation by an ATA-certified translator, which eVerbary assigns on request, meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about The Evaluation Company

ATA-certified outside

An outside translator must hold ATA certification.

Translations up front

Missing translations are a common cause of delay, TEC says.

TEC service after applying

Its translation team quotes only once the application is complete.

The Evaluation Company requirements in detail

Translation

Certified English translations of all pertinent academic documents, submitted up front (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

Who may translate

An outside translator certified by ATA, or TEC's own translation team (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

Self-translation

Not accepted: an outside translation must come from an ATA-certified translator.

How to submit

Upload scans or clear photos of the documents in the online application; official records for verification go from the institution to TEC's Houston office or by email (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

TEC's own option

In-house certified translations, with a certificate of accuracy and notarization on request; the service can start only after the evaluation application is complete (TEC translations, The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

Notarization

Not required for outside translations in TEC's published guidance; TEC notarizes its own on request (The Evaluation Company: certified translation).

Document list

TEC's document requirements tool lists the records and translations needed by country, level and credential (The Evaluation Company: document requirements).

Why TEC asks for translations with the application

TEC's own guidance on avoiding delays puts translations second, right after the online application: many applicants submit without them and then wonder why the evaluation has not moved (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

If you rely on TEC's translation team instead, that service can only begin after your application is complete, because the team first reviews which documents need translating.

Ordering the ATA-certified translation before you apply lets you upload everything at once, so the evaluation clock starts with a complete file.

Where TEC's pages differ

The "avoid delays" guide says an outside translator must be certified by ATA (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

A TEC article on common misconceptions is looser: it lists a certified translator, TEC's team, or another member of the American Translators Association (The Evaluation Company: facts and fictions of credential evaluations).

ATA membership and ATA certification are different things: certification is an exam-based credential held by an individual translator. We follow the stricter page and assign a translator individually certified by ATA, for the language pairs ATA certifies.

Need a certified translation for The Evaluation Company?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Degree certificates and diplomas showing the graduation date
  • Transcripts and mark sheets
  • Secondary school certificates and exam results
  • Professional licenses for nursing or licensure evaluations

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to The Evaluation Company

  • Upload the translation together with scans or photos of the original documents in TEC's online application (The Evaluation Company: avoid delays with your academic evaluation).

  • If your institution sends official records to TEC for verification, the translation still goes with your application; it is made from the copy you hold of the same document.

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for The Evaluation Company, what it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we do not order the evaluation for you, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For The Evaluation Company that means we translate your records with an ATA-certified translator; the evaluation and the verification with your institution are between you, your institution and TEC.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
