Wheaton College in Illinois asks most international first-year applicants for a Course Analysis evaluation from The Evaluation Company (TEC, formerly SpanTran), sent directly by TEC; a General Analysis is not accepted.

Wheaton accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary when the translator is individually certified by ATA, which eVerbary provides on request, because TEC asks that an outside translator be certified by the American Translators Association.

The TEC evaluation itself is ordered by you, and we do not provide it.

Sample translation: a Brazilian university transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Portuguese sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • CPF, RG, MEC, D.O.U., CH, CR and ENADE are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, and only then.
  • Status codes (AP, RM, RF, AE) are explained on first use, so a course failed and retaken the next term reads correctly.
  • Grades, decimal commas and dates stay exactly as printed; the date format is noted once. Converting grades is the evaluator's job.
  • Terms, rows and columns follow the original line for line, so each course can be matched at a glance.

Worth knowing about Wheaton

"General Analysis" reports are refused.

Sent by TEC

Only a report from TEC itself counts as official.

American or IB curriculum, or two years of US high school.

Wheaton requirements in detail

Translation

Through the TEC evaluation; Wheaton states no separate translation rule.

Who may translate

Set by TEC: an outside translator certified by ATA, or TEC's own team (TEC).

Evaluation

A "Course Analysis" from Spantran: The Evaluation Company, sent to Wheaton directly by TEC (Apply as an international student).

Who skips it

Students at an international school with an American or IB curriculum, or in a US high school for the last two years, send the transcript directly or by a school official's email (Apply as an international student).

Homeschool

Upload the transcript to your Portal or email admissions@wheaton.edu (Apply as an international student).

Graduate

An International Transcript Verification Report for degrees completed outside the US; international deadline January 1 for the program read (Graduate School: M.A. in TESOL admission requirements).

Aid

Scholarships and grants are considered automatically with the admission application (Apply as an international student).

Why the translator must be ATA-certified

Wheaton's undergraduate admissions office reads records from most schools abroad only through a Course Analysis report from The Evaluation Company, which it says translates your grades and coursework into the US grading system; the report must come straight from TEC to count as official (Apply as an international student).

TEC's own rule is that an outside translator must be certified by the American Translators Association, or TEC's in-house team translates after your application is complete (TEC); another TEC page speaks of an ATA member instead (TEC facts and fictions).

eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA for the languages ATA certifies: ask for a free quote and say the translation is for a TEC Course Analysis for Wheaton College.

Who does not need the TEC report

Two groups send transcripts the ordinary way: students at an international school with an American or IB accredited curriculum, and students who attended a US high school for the last two years.

Their school sends the transcript through a digital service such as Parchment, or a school official emails it to admissions@wheaton.edu (Apply as an international student).

Wheaton also treats US citizens and permanent residents abroad as Missionary Kids or Third Culture Kids rather than international applicants, which keeps federal aid open to them.

Graduate School

Graduate programs ask for an International Transcript Verification Report for degrees completed outside the US, plus official transcripts sent electronically or by mail to Graduate Admissions at 501 College Avenue (M.A. in TESOL admission requirements).

The page read does not name an agency, so confirm with your program which report it accepts before ordering the translation.

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Wheaton, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Wheaton that means we translate your records for TEC; the Course Analysis is ordered and paid by you through TEC.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Which evaluation does Wheaton College require?

A Course Analysis report from Spantran: The Evaluation Company; a General Analysis is not accepted (Apply as an international student).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Wheaton?

Yes, on request through a free quote: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95. ATA certifies no other languages into English.

I attend an IB school abroad. Do I need TEC?

No. Students in an American or IB accredited curriculum send the transcript directly from the school (Apply as an international student).

Do I apply separately for scholarships?

No. Consideration is automatic with the admission application, except for the Aequitas Fellows Program (Apply as an international student).
