How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Benedictine University requires anyone with foreign credit, whether on a visa, a permanent resident or a US citizen, to have it evaluated, and takes official evaluations only from Educational Perspectives, ECE or WES, sent directly by the agency; undergraduates request a course-by-course evaluation of high school and university work.
Benedictine's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and Educational Perspectives, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation is something we do not produce.

Benedictine requirements in detail
Translation
No rule on the admissions page; the evaluation is how foreign credit is read. The catalog asks for transcripts with English translation if applicable (International admissions; catalog).
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency; see below.
Evaluation
Educational Perspectives, ECE or WES, sent directly to the Office of Admissions (International admissions).
Who needs it
Any student with overseas credit: visa holders, permanent residents and US citizens (International admissions).
Report type
Undergraduates: course by course for high school and university work; graduates may request course by course (International admissions).
Official delivery
In the agency's original sealed envelope; Benedictine suggests one report to it and one to you (International admissions).
Transfer credit
Credit from international institutions is evaluated by EP, ECE or WES before Benedictine reviews it (transfer).
What EP, ECE and WES ask for the translation
Educational Perspectives, in Chicago, accepts translations from a reputable translation agency or a certified professional translator and also sells its own.
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not translate.
ECE accepts any complete, literal translation, including your own, or translates internally for an $85 waiver, with no translation delivered to you. One certified translation from eVerbary works for all three.
A rule for residents and citizens too
Benedictine's evaluation rule is not limited to F-1 students: permanent residents, green card holders and US citizens with foreign credit need it as well, because the evaluation sets your GPA, the US credit hours and the degree equivalent, and tells Admissions whether a foreign degree meets your program's requirement (International admissions).
The undergraduate catalog lists a fourth option, Slate Education Foundation, that the admissions page does not name, and asks you to contact Admissions about the type of evaluation (Undergraduate catalog: international admission); ordering from EP, ECE or WES matches both pages.

Uploading the translation to Benedictine
The translation goes to EP, ECE or WES with your records. The agency sends the official evaluation to Benedictine's Office of Admissions in its sealed envelope (International admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Benedictine that means we translate your records; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from Educational Perspectives, ECE or WES.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Which evaluation agencies does Benedictine accept?
Educational Perspectives, ECE or WES (International admissions).
I am a permanent resident with a foreign degree. Do I need an evaluation?
Yes. Benedictine requires it for any student with overseas credit (International admissions).
What kind of evaluation do undergraduates need?
Course by course, covering high school and university work (International admissions).
Can I translate my own documents?
For ECE, yes, if complete and word for word (ECE). WES requires a professional translator (WES).

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
