Webster University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Webster University requires a certified English translation of any transcript that is not in English, and its international admissions page spells out what that means: a trained professional translator, not a friend or a professor, who signs a statement that the translation is accurate and complete. Webster University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Webster does not ask for a credential evaluation from an outside agency; the official transcript itself still has to come from your school.
Professional translator
Friends and university professors may not translate your documents.
Signed statement
The translator certifies the English is accurate and complete.
No agency evaluation
Webster names no WES or ECE requirement for admission.
Webster requirements at a glance
| What Webster asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | Required for any transcript not in English: "a certified translation of the original transcript" (international admissions). The graduate catalog asks for it in addition to the official original-language document (graduate catalog). |
| Who may translate | A certified individual with training who is a professional translator; Webster rules out friends and university professors (source). |
| What makes it certified | A signed statement that the English translation is accurate and complete to the best of the translator's knowledge. Webster notes that a company sometimes adds a notary seal; it does not make that a requirement (source). |
| Credential evaluation | None named on the admission pages. For graduate study, the graduate catalog asks that a non-US institution be recognized by its Ministry of Education as a university-level provider. |
| Copies or originals | Scanned copies of your final, original transcripts are enough for the first decision. Official means sent directly by your school, in a sealed envelope or by school email to transcripts@webster.edu (source). |
| Uncertified translations | Undergraduates who send uncertified translations can be admitted only provisionally; full admission needs "literal and certified translations" on file (undergraduate catalog). |
| Financial and family documents | The Certificate of Finances must be officially translated into English, and dependents' marriage or birth certificates need an English translation (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. Webster's international admission process page says the translation must come from "a professional translator" who signs an accuracy statement, and tells applicants to ask a translation company whether it can certify (international admission process); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that rule. What Webster means by "certified"
Many universities ask for a certified translation without saying who may make it. Webster does say. Its international admission process page calls a translated transcript a kind of legal document, and says it has to be done by a trained, professional translator: a friend who speaks English or a university professor does not qualify, even if their English is excellent. The translation should carry a signed statement that it is accurate and complete. Webster's own advice is to ask a translation company, before paying, whether it can certify its translations.
An eVerbary certified translation is made by a professional translator and comes with that signed statement on letterhead. Webster mentions that some companies also have the translation notarized; it describes this as something that happens, not as a requirement. If you want it anyway, notarization can be added at checkout for $34.90 per order.
Provisional admission while documents are missing
Webster decides on scanned copies first. For the official file, the undergraduate catalog separates two statuses: a provisional admit, which includes students who sent uncertified translations of their transcripts, and a full accept, whose file holds all official final transcripts and, where needed, literal and certified translations. Provisional students must complete the file before federal aid is paid and before they can register for a following semester.
Graduate applicants are in a similar position. The graduate catalog says transcripts that applicants upload themselves are not official, and that a provisionally accepted student's final transcript, showing the degree and the date it was conferred, must be on file within eight weeks of the start of the first term. If the transcript does not show the degree, a copy of the diploma is required too, and it needs a translation of its own.
Deadlines and campuses for F-1 students
For a visa-supported start, Webster's international page lists June 1 and October 15 for undergraduate fall and spring, and four graduate terms: Fall 1 (June 1), Fall 2 (August 15), Spring 1 (October 15) and Spring 2 (January 1). Completed applications are typically processed in about two weeks, and Webster does not take requests to expedite them. F-1 undergraduates apply to the Webster Groves campus in St. Louis; graduate applications are accepted for St. Louis and San Antonio, Texas.
Because a decision can come on scanned copies, the translation is usually the item that holds up an application. Ordering it at the same time as you request your official transcript keeps both on the same timeline.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school or university transcripts, every page
- The diploma or degree certificate, when the transcript does not show the degree or the conferral date
- External exam results from your home country (first-year applicants)
- Bank statements or letters for the Certificate of Finances, which must be officially translated into English
- Marriage or birth certificates for an F-2 spouse or child
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Webster
Upload the scanned original and the certified translation in the online application; anything you cannot upload goes to intlstudy@webster.edu (source). The official transcript must come from your school: by school email to transcripts@webster.edu, by mail to the Office of Admission, or in a sealed, unopened envelope you hand to the Office of International Admissions in Loretto Hall.
Graduate applicants can also have a secure e-transcript service send official transcripts to transcripts@webster.edu (graduate catalog). The certified translation goes with the original-language document it belongs to.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. At Webster that means we translate your transcripts, diploma, financial and family documents; the official transcript itself has to come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Can my professor or a friend translate my transcript for Webster?
No. Webster says students cannot have a friend or university professor translate their documents; it must be a professional translator (source).
Does Webster require the translation to be notarized?
No. Webster asks for a signed statement of accuracy and notes that a company sometimes adds a notary seal (source). eVerbary can add notarization at checkout for $34.90 per order if you want it.
What happens if I send an uncertified translation?
Undergraduates can be admitted provisionally, but full admission requires literal and certified translations on file (undergraduate catalog).
Do I need a WES or ECE evaluation for Webster?
Webster's admission pages do not ask for one. They ask for the official transcript and a certified English translation (graduate catalog).
Does my bank statement need a translation?
Yes. Webster says the Certificate of Finances must be officially translated into English; financial documents must be dated no more than 11 months before your first term (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
